Cambodia isn't that cheap, but I always find it laughable when people talk about Western commodities. Iceberg lettuce doesn't grow here, clementines aren't exactly common and milk up until recently was only imported (still is 99%). How about you show us the price of passion fruit, mangos, durian and so on instead? It's all subjective.

Who is he? I thought we were speaking of a hypothetical person, I apologize if I struck a raw nerve. Thai Immigration can ask to see 20,000 baht in cash before allowing entry to the country. I believe they also have the same right to ask to see cash if one applies for an extension to a visa. If one has less than $700US a month to live on Thailand will be a difficult place to make your domocile.
How ever so would the UK if that is all you have. One could enter by plane and get 2 extensions, cross the border and return and get 2 extensions, repeat that one more time and if lucky stay 9 months. After that one would run out of options.

In the people’s republic of Kalifornia, specifically San Francisio, hotels are mandated to have a certain percentage ‘occupied’ by the homeless. Recently that percentage was increased dramatically.

Hoteliers protested, saying that they would be unable to stay in business.

Did see about some charities that provide vouchers for the homeless..but nothing SF related... which has tons of homeless..

Sir, if I remember correctly you claim to live in a state where welfare recipients live in mansions. In Thailand, the pension for the elderly is 600 baht a month. Approx. $20USD. While I am pleased that you see the need to take care of society's lowest rung, certainly you are becoming "enlightened" to the need for public housing and the homeless. No visitors to Thailand will be treated with such courtesy. This is Asia, dog eats dog and in many countries, man eats dog. I believe the Socialist Republic of Vietnam has less stringent financial requirements for a long stayer than Thailand does and the poor westerner is more welcome there as they are in the Republic of the Philippines.

Icebergs in Lucky's are between $1.3 to $2.6 from tiny size to normal. And then you have to cut out the rot! So, Lucky's ain't cheaper than AUD1.8

Mandarins were $4.5 a kilo in Bayon. I went there today. Didn't buy any. The market will probably be cheaper.

In Coles in Cairns mandarins are $4.50 a kg, lettuce $2.50 each. Mangoes $2.50 each at the moment, soon will be a dollar. Watermelon is $5, lychees and longans $13 a kg. Asia is still cheap for food and rent.

I'm not surprised by the price difference. White potatoes on veggie stall at Central Market are $1 a kilo, maybe $1.5. In Luckys the same potato is $4 a kilo. A total rip off

I think the supermarkets have just got it all their own way and have no effective competition. And they are all hopeless with stock lines appearing then disappearing for weeks or forever. Nothings all in one store. It's a big downside to living here.
