Good news for the 3rd Gender

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Good news for the 3rd Gender

Post by phuketrichard »

is this a good or bad thing?
will they need to build a "3rd" toilet everywhere now
Transsexuality will be recognized in the new Constitution being drafted by a junta-appointed committee, a spokesman announced yesterday.

In articles enumerating the rights of citizens, equal protection language for “third gender or different sexualities” will be added to an article which prohibits discrimination based on factors such as place of birth, gender and religion, according to committee spokesman Kamnoon Sithisamarn.

One LGBT-rights political activist was indifferent to the news, saying it amounted to little coming from a military junta which has shut the public out of the process.

"Some of the activists, including myself, won’t be proud to achieve this draft, as we lost our rights to have a voice in the process," said Chantalak Raksayu, a member of the Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Rights Party.

They might reconsider when they figure out that they'll need to build "3rd" prisons too.

there was a study, pinpointing the transgender thing in Thailand to the water, hormonal loads or so...

its weird, that they have so many...

would be interesting to see statistics, where most of them (their mothers) are born and things...

One of my staff in Thailand when I worked there was a man who'd had the full transformation to a women, quite a weird experience getting used to interacting with her in a business environment. Still had that ridiculous overt campness and high shrieking behaviour on occasion which got very annoying after a while. Interesting reading the personnel policies where there was laid down govt policy for time off for related medical treatment.

Equality, no rights for anybody. No discussion either. No complaints.

LoL. Thankfully sheltered, in this case.

Ah yes, because I don't call a man who decides to get tit implants and a few months hormone therapy a "man" I must be sheltered. Lol. Please, tell me more of your silly jokes.

Steady on, old son. Some of us have friends that exhibit both genders naturally, and friends who have an additional chromosome.
