the only reason i was being denied was that i didnt have 20000 baht in thai baht CASH ON ME AT THAT PARTICULAR TIME. as i pointed out already, i had readily provable amounts of money; when that was rectified at great expense to myself, i was then allowed to enter.

oh yeah first thing i did on arriving in bangkok was close my one thai baht FIXED deposit account. only way to pull money out of that is if it is WRITTEN in the bank book at the branch. and it alone was far in excess of 20000 baht. have two other non fixed accounts as well.

The VISA ON ARRIVAL allows passport holders of 19* countries to enter Thailand under this rule provided that they meet these requirements:
The visit is strictly for tourism purposes.
The passport must be genuine and should be valid for at least 30 days.
You must have a valid address in Thailand whether a hotel or apartment that can be verified.
You must have a confirmed return ticket to show that they are flying out of Thailand within 15 days of entry, as appropriate. Open tickets do not qualify. Travelling overland out of Thailand by train, bus, etc to Cambodia, Laos, Malaysia (including en route to Singapore), Myanmar, etc is not accepted as proof of exiting Thailand.
You may be asked to show your flight ticket on entering Thailand. If you do not possess a flight ticket to show you will be exiting Thailand within 30 or 15 days of entry you will be most likely to be refused entry.
It will also be necessary to prove that you have funds of at least 10,000 THB per person and 20,000 THB per family during your stay in Thailand.
A fee of 2,000 THB is payable upon entry and is subject to change without notice. It must be paid in cash and Thai currency only.
However, persons who are not eligible to enter Thailand under the VISA ON ARRIVAL and VISA EXEMPTION RULE are advised to obtain visas with the Royal Thai Embassy prior to their visit.

Can you enlighten us how coming into the country with the correct count of visa exempt or tourist visa is scamming the system?

i am not chinese and dont pay 2000 baht for visa on arrival. my passport gets the customary free 30 day visa exemption which comparatively recently (since in junta reign) has been limited to two land crossings per year.
in addition to that i can obtain quite a few 2-month tourist visas from various thai embassies in the region or if need be non immigration visas from embassies at 3 month entry each. i have been here in this region for quite a while yes even before the last baht crash so am very suspect of parking money there under the current fiasco reign. baht crash can significantly decimate your international worth holding.

I was denied a visa exempt entry because I had six (over three years) in my passport. The Immigration supervisor at HKT decided seven visa exempt entries were too many... until he "did me a favour" for $2000 baht (no receipt). Thieving cunt!
