An American suspect in the alleged kidnapping of a Taiwanese businessman for ransom was arrested on Wednesday while attempting to leave the country through Suvarnabhumi airport.
He is the 10th suspect to be arrested in the case.
Crime Suppression Division (CSD) commander Pol Maj Gen Suwat Sangnum said Matthew Wilson, 38, was detained as he entered immigration before his planned departure.
Investigators had tracked him down and confirmed his intention to leave the country, he said.
Mr Wilson faces an arrest warrant issued by the South Bangkok Criminal Court on May 25 on charges including illegal assembly, attempted murder, extortion and abduction for ransom.
The CSD chief said the man denied all allegations.
He was handed over to Lumphini and Thong Lor police stations for legal proceedings. The alleged abduction involves both jurisdictions.
Mr Wilson and nine other suspects are charged with abducting Taiwanese businessman Wen Yu Chung from a restaurant in Thong Lor on March 28 and demanding more than 93 million baht in return for his release. The case arises from a business conflict.
The first arrests were on May 16, when police detained three men, two Americans and a Thai, in Bangkok. Other arrests followed.
Pol Maj Gen Suwat alleged on Wednesday that Mr Wilson took part in restraining the Taiwanese man and taking him forcefully from the restaurant where they had met, to another place nearby.

A former U.S. Marine was arrested in Thailand over an alleged $3 million dollar kidnap for a ransom revenge plot.
Louis William Ziskin, 52, with the help of three other accomplices allegedly nabbed Taiwanese businessman Wen Yu Chung, 60, in broad daylight at a restaurant in Bangkok on March 28.
They were allegedly angry over a failed business deal in which Chung had sold them rubber gloves for 93 million baht ($2.95 million) which turned out to be poor quality.
Louis, together with fellow American Jeremy Hughes Manchester, 41, Thai cop Kritsnaporn Thapthawee, 59, and another Thai man Prasit Narit, 28, allegedly demanded money from Chung before he could be freed.
However, the businessman’s family refused to pay the vast three million dollar ransom and contacted local authorities for help. This allegedly pressured the group and released the Taiwanese at a hospital before they were arrested on May 15.

I wonder about the original deal details, as there IS ways to check the quality before paying, as there is ways to leave this responsability to a third party, and secure the deal.
However, bad deal, then bad plan B idea.

Police in Thailand said on Thursday they were pursuing more suspects in the kidnapping of a Taiwanese businessman in which an American entrepreneur with a criminal past and two other men have been arrested. The case involves a business dispute over the purchase of nitrile gloves – critical personal protective equipment during the coronavirus pandemic
Louis William Ziskin, the CEO of a Los Angeles-based tech company, and Jeremy Hughes Manchester, identified as a former US Marine, were arrested on Saturday, along with a Thai man. The five additional suspects are from the US and Israel, said police colonel Netiwit Thanasithnitikul of Thailand’s Crime Suppression Division.
Ziskin and Manchester have denied the charges, which include kidnapping, attempted murder, assault and being part of a criminal gang. Both are free on bail but must wear tracking devices at all times and not leave Thailand.
According to a police statement after Saturday’s arrests, the representative of the Taiwanese company, Wen Yu-chung, was lured to a meeting in March this year on the pretext of discussing the possible purchase of rubber gloves.
The group allegedly hired by Ziskin, including Manchester, seized Wen in full view of customers, restaurant staff and a CCTV camera, dragging him outside after a brief struggle and bundling him into a waiting vehicle, which took him to a rented room nearby.
Wen was allegedly threatened with physical harm, and the men holding him are accused of using his phone to call his company to demand US$2 million, and his family to demand US$1 million. The company refused and contacted the authorities.
Wen was then taken to another restaurant, according to police, where Ziskin insisted he wanted the Taiwanese company to return his payment for the gloves.
That same night, they brought Wen to a police station where they wanted him to sign a statement that he would not press charges against them. He refused, after which he was released. He returned later to the police station to file a complaint.
Ziskin was arrested in 2000 and convicted of being part of a drug ring that smuggled large amounts of Ecstasy to southern California from Europe. He was released from prison in 2011 and then remodelled himself as a serial entrepreneur, whose main business, DropIn Inc., uses drones to help insurance companies evaluate risks and verify claims.
The 51-year-old also is an active motivational speaker, presenting himself in personal appearances, interviews and podcasts as an example of how a convicted criminal can clean up his act and prosper in legitimate business.

They got scammed by the Taiwanese, now the gloves industry is full of crooks faking certifications as the profits are insane. Very hard to secure safe and reliable supply.
