Fines and patrols to clear vendors, beggars and homeless from Pattaya.
Never mind the violence, the drugs, the thugs, and the organized crime, Pattaya City Hall is planning to clean the streets of vendors, homeless people and beggars who are making the city less attractive for tourists. The plan is that at least if you get mugged or attacked in the streets, there will be plenty of room to lie unconscious in the gutters.
Street Vendors, Beggars and Homeless Targeted in Pattaya City Cleanup
A meeting was held at Pattaya City Hall on July 7, chaired by Mr. Sethaphol Boonsawad, to discuss organisation and discipline at Pattaya Beach.
On the agenda were new rules to control street vendors, kitchen side-car motorcycles, the homeless and beggars along the length of Beach Road and Walking Street.
The meeting concluded that the current ‘unorganised chaos’ is annoying to tourists and harms Pattaya’s image and so affects the tourist trade. Which is all that matters.
Mr. Sethaphol later said that these are long overdue problems that have never been tackled seriously before and so from now onward he will make sure there are municipal officers stationed along the road, during the prime time, who will be fining ‘these people.’
The fines will focus on the kitchen side-car motorcycles that sell food along the strip. These fines will be 2000 baht for each offence.
There will also be a twice weekly patrol to clear homeless people and beggars from the area.

I guess they miss the point that ‘unorganised chaos’ is one of the attractions that tourists want to see in Thailand.
May as well stay at home if the 'street vendors & kitchen side-car motorcycles' have been cleared out.

Looks like most of the poorer tourists are going to starve to death
Looks like they're going to clean out the "off their face bottom feeders" as well. That' s going to impact on the Coconut Bar girls as they will lose most of their customersCEOCambodiaNews wrote: There will also be a twice weekly patrol to clear homeless people and beggars from the area.
