Family of well-known Houstonian killed in Thailand trying to raise money to bring his body home
Saturday, October 22, 2016 08:35AM
HOUSTON (KTRK) --
The family of a Houston man tragically killed in a motorcycle crash in Thailand is desperately trying to raise money to bring his body home.
From the club scene to the gym scene, Clark Shao is a well -known name and face in Houston. His cousin, Oscar Chen, said, "He's a hard working person. He shows you work hard, you play hard and live life a day at a time, minute at a time."
He was even once named Houston's hottest bachelor by "Inside Edition" in 2014. His positive, energetic workouts and training sessions have tens of thousands of YouTube views. His friends add his sense of adventure was contagious. YouTube posts show him tasting bugs and worms in Asia...
But those who knew him best say it's the impact he's had on their lives. As a mentor and friend, they can't believe he is gone. Chen said, "It's super devastating, I'm in denial, I don't believe. He was always a loving, caring person."
His childhood friend Neil Jou said, "The type of person you look up to, very inspirational individual."
Shao and his girlfriend Melissa were enjoying a vacation in Thailand. Relatives say the two were near a beach when they left to return to their hotel by motorcycle. A rainy, bumpy ride turned tragic when they crashed into another vehicle, possibly another motorcycle. Shao died later at the hospital. His girlfriend Melissa is injured.
Many relatives are in Thailand now and say it is a very difficult process to go through in getting him back to the United States for a funeral. Friends have started a GoFundMe page to help with expenses. Chen said, "They wouldn't release his body just yet."...

if he's so well known in Houston, why not just ask all of his "friends" there?
BTW, what kind of, "He was even once named Houston's hottest bachelor by "Inside Edition" in 2014" is so poor, he hasn't got the money himself? (and yes, I realize he's dead, but wouldn't his accounts have a beneficiary?)
curious

That's a great effort. Still insane repatriating dead bodies IMO.CEOCambodiaNews wrote:Update:

My will says I am to be cremated. Must ask my sister to stick a note on it to say to get me cremated on location if I die outside of Australia.

he spent all his money on whey, facials and pruning his 2 akitas, live life vicariously and expect someone else to pick up the tab or friends and families exploiting a tragic event or maybe not... we will never know but these are not the kind of charities that i would be willing to donate to, others may, but stop propagating these "stupid" fund me stories

I'd just like to know why all these people think that it's normal to ask others to pay their bills. If you can afford to take exotic overseas holidays then you can budget for some insurance. Stay in a cheaper hotel or something. And if the insurance doesn't cover you because you were drunk or driving with no licence, who's fault is that ?bolueeleh wrote:he spent all his money on whey, facials and pruning his 2 akitas, live life vicariously and expect someone else to pick up the tab or friends and families exploiting a tragic event or maybe not... we will never know but these are not the kind of charities that i would be willing to donate to, others may, but stop propagating these "stupid" fund me stories
I'm not throwing stones here, but whatever happened to being responsible for yourself ? (Signed: Old-fashioned person who is wondering why the rest of the world should pick up my tab.)

What a waste of money.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

What would be better would be to raise the money and donate it to a worthwhile cause in his memory.

If only he had travelled to Cambodia instead, he would still be living his fabulous life.
Because they are Thai.Chen said, "They wouldn't release his body just yet."...
