The Daily Mail does it again with this touching tale of human interest at its best.
Tragedy is turned to everlasting friendship as another English teacher on holiday from their job in Vietnam winds up in trouble in LOS, but this time we can blame the Vietnamese at least.

IDC = Immigration Detention Center, so it's only for visa violations as Richard mentions. He's not actually in jail.i wonder what the indians are in for

You mean the Chanasongkram Police Station on the corner of Khao San Road? Never seen the inside of that place, but again the IDC is just for holding those awaiting deportation that I guess haven't been arrested and/or charged with a crime, i.e. not awaiting trial. So, it's a different kind of place.
Actually, they almost seem to be having a bit of a party. May as well make the best of it.
