Death Island- Koh Tao

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Wait... I need to go get some snacks for the ensuing battle with the armchair experts.

You should stick around Ian.. some of the threads may pique your interest.... you just have to navigate past the drivel generated by boredom.

well seeing as the video was in the samui times......
sure there going to be upset,

Thai's have ZERO sense of humor when it comes to breaking their income revenue and slamming the police/government as being ineffective or corrupt
More than one farang has been taken to court here in phuket

Thanks for your comment Ira.

I actually did some research on the Tourism Authority of Thailand (“TAT”) and checked out some of their advertising and promotion.

One can see from the above screenshot that Google correctly identified that the TAT website in Australia lacks the words HONEST & VIDEO on the page used to promote Koh Tao aka Death Island.

Therefore, we have some additional evidence to support the proposition that a reasonable person should not be misled by any suggestion that TAT produced the HONEST KOH TAO TOURISM VIDEO.

Indeed, the TAT website has no reference at all to the murders and suspicious deaths on Koh Tao. It’s all rather misleading & deceptive - by omission - is it not?

Yes, that’s true. Apparently the Thais have no sense of humour when it comes to breaking their income and slamming the police and government as corrupt. Go figure!?

You are spot on about Phuket.

I am reasonably familiar with many of the dramas on Phuket. I sat through a three day criminal defamation trial in the Phuket Provincial Court when Aussie journalist, Alan Morison & his Thai partner, Chutima Sidasathian were charged with defaming the Royal Thai Navy for merely quoting a sentence from. Reuters report on the trafficking of Rohingya boat people. The journalists won on that occasion!

I am also aware of the action brought against BBC journalist, Jonathan Head over his reporting of a property scam where a Phuket lawyer falsely certified the signature on an important document was made by a foreigner (which foreigner was thereby defrauded).

“Explorer” made the observation that often people outside Thailand who watch documentaries can know more about what is happening within the kingdom than people who actually live there.

One event that explorer could refer to in support of that proposition is the death of Argentinian tourist Rocio Gomez following a disastrous scuba lesson on Koh Tao. She lay dying in a Bangkok hospital as this YouTube music video was being created:

In the days and weeks following her death, NOTHING was even mentioned by the mainstream media within Thailand. In contrast, it received considerable exposure within Argentina 🇦🇷 in the Spanish language.

The story was picked up by the Samui Times in January 2019 but of course the Samui Times is now published from England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 due to those draconian criminal defamation laws.

Here are my comments about the death of Rocio Gomez and the lack of coverage within Thailand.
(I know the quality of the video is not very good. Sorry)

It would be wise for Natasha Dai to never go to Thailand. Anyone who has contact with her, please warn her.

I also wonder if there may be other countries sympathetic to Thailand who may arrest her and extradite her to Thailand.

Foreign media needs to speak up about this. That is the only way the Thai authorities will understand that it is not the secret they think it is. A lot of people outside Thailand know about it.

@Ian This video was posted on this forum in December. thailand-news-and-discussion/death-isla ... ml#p302102
If you do a search you will find there are also a number of other threads discussing Koh Tao on the forum which date back to some years ago. FYI.

Hi explorer.

I can assure you that Natasha is not stupid and that she has no plans to travel to Thailand. I also impressed upon her that it could be dangerous for her to do so. Given that Natasha was involved in the production of the video she has a far better knowledge of the Thai defamation laws than even the vast majority of expats living in the kingdom.

She remains perfectly safe in Sydney.

One might imagine that there would be some risks with Natasha travelling to Laos but Thailand has little influence outside its own borders.

Where to start lol !!! First they are telling Air Asia their marketing campaign is promoting sex tourism on the streets of Brisbane then we have an Australian based lawyer telling us Thailand long term residents that we live in a news blackout and don't understand the laws we live under. Since when did Australia become the America of South East Asia, a bit of mineral wealth and they think they own the region.

Patronising to Thai expats and Thailand as a country, well done :thumb:

I doubt this video will deter the Aussie criminal element, drug dealing biker gangs from coming here, numerous high profile stories we amazingly managed read about in our censored press, however if the younger loud mouthed uncouth element that come here to get drunk, insult and fight with the locals can take this video on board and stop coming to Thailand, it will be a great public service.
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.
