Death Island- Koh Tao

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

This is the very last message I received from Hannah’s brave sister, Laura Daniels (née Witheridge) before she passed away on 16 September 2019, 5 years & 1 day after Hannah died.

Laura did not believe that the two tiny Burmese men committed the Koh Tao murders but that local island criminals did.

Did I read somewhere recently, that the “murderers” have had their death sentences commuted to prison terms?? Some kind of Kong’s pardon??

Yes Yerg. The Koh Tao scapegoats received a pardon from King Rama X along with almost all other prisoners on death row. It was gazetted on Friday 14 August 2020 and was to mark the King's birthday.

At least one if the victims family actually wanted Thailand to reduce their sentence as they don’t believe in the death sentence.
Don’t listen to Chinese whispers.

Koh Tao strikes again ... or to be more precise, a Thai Diving Instructor by the name of Santi Khokpool struck a young Western tourist with a broken bottle slashing his neck open in a sinister and unprovoked attack. The attack occurred in front of a host of witnesses within the Fishbowl Beach Bar on Sairee Beach. The young guy was lucky to have many heroes come to his aid, apply first aid and get him to a hospital on nearby Koh Samui where another group of heroes performed life saving surgery.

A lawyer's view of the Koh Tao Murders 6 years on

Does "criminal law" even exist in Thailand as that concept is understood by Western lawyers??

Crowds protested the convictions.

Thai criminal courts have an ABSURDLY high "rubber stamp" conviction rate
