Canadian Muay Thai boxer's death may be foul play

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Canadian Muay Thai boxer's death may be foul play

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

PHUKET - The Patong police chief has called for a thorough investigation into the death of 27-year-old Canadian expat, Matthew Richardson, a well-respected Muay Thai fighter on this tourist island whose body was found in his rented home in Patong on Monday.

He was found by his girlfriend in the bathroom of his apartment on 50 Pi Road Wednesday morning with the strap of a black carry bag still around his neck, according to media reports.
His girlfriend told police she went to his home after being unable to contact Richardson all night. Finding the door locked, she summoned his landlord, Pol Col Tassanai Orarigadech told Khaosodenglish.com.

"I don't want to conclude that he committed suicide," the Phuket News quoted him as saying.
"We are afraid we will be compared to Koh Tao," he said, according to media reports...

As recently as last Thursday (July 20), Mr Richardson posted online his thanks and gratitude – a common theme in his posts – in Thai and in English: “Thank you for everything Ajarn Chaynoi! Safe travels & see you soon!”

Only two days earlier, he posted, “I am honoured to be the new DBKL Kuda Merah Malaysian International Champion! Looking forward to defending my title later this year in Kuala Lumpur.

Mr Richardson had a successful career as a Muay Thai fighter. On his own Facebook profile, he listed his fight card as 33 pro fights with 22 wins – 16 KO, 10 losses, 1 no contest.
Locally he had won two EFL champion titles (75 kilogram) and won the Bangla stadium champion titles in both the 70kg and 75kg divisions each twice, and reigned as the Patong stadium champion (72kg).

Reminiscent of David Carradine's death in Bangkok 8 years ago.

HuH;
kinky

Actor David Carradine was found dead in the closet of a Bangkok hotel room Thursday with a cord wrapped around his neck and genitals, leading Thai police to suspect his death was not a suicide but an accident resulting from dangerous sex practices.

The murderers made it look that way in order to disgrace him.

Both of the victims were practitioners of martial arts and died in Thailand in a similar manner.

A clear pattern is emerging.
