A 28-year-old Cambodian migrant labourer was arrested by Thai police on Wednesday for allegedly murdering his friend, another Cambodian migrant labourer, on a construction site in Thailand.

The murder took place on Tuesday evening at about 9.30pm at a construction site located in Bangkok’s Lath Krabang district.

Chuon Kimseng, deputy chief of the criminal investigation department in Pailin province, said that according to a Thai police report, the suspect was identified as Pov Seyha, a migrant labourer from Pailin province who was working for a Thai construction company in Bangkok.

The victim was named as Cheng Rak, 27, a Cambodian labourer from Kampong Chhnang province who worked with the suspect.

Mr Kimseng said that according to Thai police, the suspect and victim, who were close friends, drank beers in their rental room on the night of the murder and got very drunk before getting into an argument.

“During the argument, the suspect took a sharp vegetable knife and stabbed the victim’s stomach many times, causing him to die instantly at the scene due to his serious injuries,” he said. “After killing the victim, he fled.”
