Robert David Hastings is wanted for 12 alleged offences of sexual abuse and molesting girls under the age of 14 in UK which he denies.

A suspected British paedophile working as a teacher at a school in Thailand laughed as he was arrested by police.

Robert David Hastings is wanted for 12 counts of sexual abuse and molesting girls under the age of 14 in the UK.

The 61-year-old told police he had been living in the country since 2005 and denied any wrongdoing.

He was arrested on Tuesday at a school in Udon Thani province, where he worked as an English teacher.

An immigration inspector in Nongkhai province, Pariwat Satchaphan, said: "He has been charged by British police authorities for indecent actions - 12 accounts - to children under 14 years old."

Hastings denied the accusations and, according to the Bangkok Post, has a Thai wife.

He has now been sent to an Immigration Detention Centre in Bangkok, where a court will decide whether or not to extradite him.

"Why am I being arrested in England? And I'm happy to go back and find out. I know I have done nothing wrong.....

Honestly I thought my first day at school was difficult as a kid, I can't imagine how difficult it is for you english teachers arriving at a new school first day and working out where's safe to sit beside your colleagues. I'd be heading for the butch lesbian every time.

The Philippines has also been accepted as an English speaking country and the those with Education degrees from the RP are being accepted as licensed teachers and hired at substantially lower salaries than "western" people. Unfortunately, there are no police record checks(or even checking references and past employment)in place so some pedophiles will find their way into the schools, be they Filipino's or other nationalities. It's a shame really, such a beautiful country still behind the times education wise and everything being dictated by the money. The children suffer in the end. Another generation ruined.

A while back I was researching visas for Thailand and I'm sure that applications for teachers working visas required police checks.

It isn't enforced yet. The degree requirement is being enforced by the Teachers Council of Thailand, which grants permission to the Labor Department to issue a Work Permit. I write that not knowing of course if the Thai's are checking it themselves without the teacher knowing, but I seriously doubt it. It was always a threat to make the applicant provide it which again, is not going to work anyhow with a real criminal. There also remain many "teachers" teaching in the schools illegally without any Work Permit and the correct VISA.

That is quite the combover.
