BRITISH MAN FAILS WITH PARACHUTE FROM 29TH-FLOOR PATTAYA CONDO

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

BRITISH MAN FAILS WITH PARACHUTE FROM 29TH-FLOOR PATTAYA CONDO

Post by phuketrichard »

at least NOt another suicide:
PATTAYA – A British man parachuted from a 29th-floor Pattaya condominium, but it malfunctioned and caused his death.
Pattaya Tourist Police Officer, Bang Lamung Police Station Officer, and Pattaya City Rescue Workers hurried to a condo in Na Kluea Subdistrict, Bang Lemung District, Chonburi Province, after receiving a report that a person had fallen from a height and died at around 7:30 p.m. on January 27.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Wow... The 29th floor, let's assume 3M per floor, a few more meters for the spacier ground floor and we're looking at 100-120 meter high. I would call it suicidal in an urban environment from a building.

I once met an Ozzy former paratrooper and he told me during training they had to jump from a really low flying plane, around 300 ft of the ground if I recall well, after a long training, and some would literally shit themselves because it was (considered) an extremely dangerous jump.

Doing the same from a condo (balcony?) seems suicidal to me.

At least with a plane at 300ft / ~150kts, you have a huge gust of wind to open your chute. Jumping off will require you to gather pace before it will deploy and then......SPLAT!!!!

Well if he was intending to BASE jump off a building at that height for an adrenaline rush it was obviously short lived.

Force Recon Marines used to do similar jumps. Packed into the ass end of an OV-10 Bronco ... the plane comes into the beach at low level then at drop site, it takes a steep near vertical turn and the gravity poops out the Marines ... this was in the 1980s, early 1990s ... I don't think they do anything like it anymore cause they retired to Bronco. Pretty nuts though.

My brother (RM) did some winter training (Finland) with some Force Recon and USMC. He said you could hear them from miles away and they did not take the training seriously.

After his group had beaten them up they refused to train with them. To this day the RM never train with grunts from the USA. True fact. (SF yes)

Don't know but what difference does that make?
Reservist still do the same training and duration. But you would know that if you knew what the colour of the boathouse is.
