Thai cave rescue: The Cave film shares behind-the-scenes shots
By Helier Cheung BBC News
25 December 2018
The dramatic Thai cave rescue unfolded like a film. It involved a desperate search, selfless volunteers, an audacious rescue, and 12 boys and one man determined to survive against the odds.
Several films of the rescue are being planned, but the first to finish filming is The Cave by Thai-Irish director Tom Waller, which involves several of the actual rescue divers.
The BBC has been given a sneak peek into the first official photos from the film set: https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-46644840

Opening today...
Cave Once Trapped Thai Footballers to Officially Open in November as Tourist Attraction
01/11/19 01:55
BANGKOK, Oct. 30 (Xinhua) -- The Tham Luang Cave which used to trap a junior football team in Thailand's northern province of Chiang Rai, will officially be opened for tourists from Nov. 1, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment announced in its website on Wednesday.
The once flooded cave is going to be opened more than one year after the footballers and coach of the Wild Boar Academy were rescued by international teams after being trapped for 18 days.
The ministry's Department of National Parks, Wildlife and Plant Conservation said the cave had to be closed to get all the rescue equipment removed, as well as to develop the landscape of the Tham Luang national park for visitors.
A museum and the statue of a Thai ex-navy diver, Saman Gunan, who died during the mission, were also built to commemorate the rescue.
Tourists will be allowed to tour inside the cave from 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. from Nov. 1.

Now a movie by Ron Howard...
Going underground: inside Ron Howard’s explosive movie about the Thai cave rescue
To the rescue … Colin Farrell as John Volanthen, Joel Edgerton as Richard ‘Harry’ Harris and Viggo Mortensen as Rick Stanton in Thirteen Lives.
Viggo Mortensen plays a heroic firefighter in new movie Thirteen Lives, based on the dramatic 2018 rescue of 12 boys and their coach in Thailand. But the film isn’t simply a white-saviour narrative, as its director explains.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

Captain of football team rescued from Thai cave in 2018 dies in UK
Cause of death of Duangpetch Promthep, who moved to Leicester to attend a football academy, has not been confirmed
Rebecca Ratcliffe in Bangkok
Wed 15 Feb 2023 15.04 GMT
Duangpetch Promthep, one of the 12 boys from the Wild Boars football club who were rescued from a flooded Thai cave in 2018, has died in the UK.
Duangpetch, who had moved to the UK to attend a college’s football academy, died on Tuesday, said the Zico Foundation, which had supported his scholarship abroad. His death was also confirmed by Brooke House college in Leicester.
Duangpetch, known as Dom, was found in his dorm by a teacher on Sunday and was taken by ambulance to hospital, Kiatisuk Senamuang, the founder of the Zico Foundation, told an online press conference.
Duangpetch was treated at the hospital until Tuesday but was unresponsive.
Duangpetch had travelled to the UK late last year to attend the college. “Dom was very happy with playing football there,” Kiatisuk said. “Dom was very fast, very smart, full of happiness.”
Ian Smith, the principal at Brooke House college, said: “This event has left our college community deeply saddened and shaken. We unite in grief with all of Dom’s family, friends, former teammates and those involved in all parts of his life, as well as everyone affected in any way by this loss in Thailand and throughout the college’s global family.
