Boys soccer team trapped in flooded cave.
Re: Boys soccer team trapped in flooded cave.
As for Musk, from the graphic being widely used in the press, the rescue sticking point is a submerged 15" wide curved section of cave entrance into the chamber where the team was trapped. Hard to envision any kind of rigid "child size submarine" being able to pass through that. Might as well say, "why doesn't Musk just pull up and rescue the kids with a Tesla?". That one narrow passage would make simply "pulling the kids through" with a rope similarly impossible.Barang chgout wrote: ↑Mon Jul 09, 2018 10:10 pm
Where is Musk and his submarine? Why not just tie ropes to both ends and pull the kids through?
Shit doesn't add up here!

about the Aussie diving/Dr
https://www.irrawaddy.com/news/asia/aus ... paper.htmlAn Australian doctor is at the center of the ongoing attempt to rescue the young soccer players and their coach trapped in the Tham Luang cave in Thailand’s northern Chiang Rai Province.
The Sydney Morning Herald reported that Richard Harris, an anesthetist from Adelaide, Australia, has been one of the international dive experts seconded to assist with the difficult and dangerous rescue mission.
Dr. Harris on Saturday undertook the dangerous dive to reach the 12 Thai boys and their coach and later gave the final approval on the boys’ health, clearing the way for the rescue attempt which commenced yesterday and succeed in bringing out four of the survivors, the paper reported.

Elon's just Muskling in on the publicity and the rope won't work.
But why so few divers? If 18 can only work ,say 8 hours, why not get 54?
It's not like theirs a dearth of saturation divers around. Those boys work in the dark all the time.

It does seem quite odd that the rescue efforts would stop at night and resume in the mornings. It's not like sunlight would improve anything inside the cave. But obviously there are many factors we don't know about. I can only imagine that if continuous active rescuing was possible they would certainly be doing it. There will be plenty of time for criticism after all this drama is over. IF it's because there is a shortage of qualified divers on site then junta heads should roll because surely the Aussies, Brits or many other nations could have had 100 highly experienced Navy divers there within in two days at most.Barang chgout wrote: ↑Tue Jul 10, 2018 7:54 amYeah, fair enough.xxxxxxx wrote:As for Musk, from the graphic being widely used in the press, the rescue sticking point is a submerged 15" wide curved section of cave entrance into the chamber where the team was trapped. I believe that they are going with the safety first attitude for both the rescuers and the kids. The total route is about 4 kilometres and tough going for the divers.
This type of activity is not just a walk in the park and a diver friend said he couldn't do it as he hates small spaces.
These specialised divers are the best available and are doing a great job but exhaustion could cause their deaths or the boys.
I am in awe of the dedication of all those involved and am heartened to see the international cooperation to resolve the situation safely.
No one really cares who gets the pat on the back, just want everyone to be safe.

Re: Boys soccer team trapped in flooded cave.
Experienced Navy diver does not equal experienced cave diver. I do believe that there are not that many cave divers in the world who can pull off this rescue; they even had to resort to civilian divers. My take is that the handful of divers that can actually do this need to rest, and obviosuly resting at night is easier and better than doing this during the day.xxxxxxx wrote: ↑Tue Jul 10, 2018 8:18 amIt does seem quite odd that the rescue efforts would stop at night and resume in the mornings. Yeah, I know it's standard to heap praise upon those in bad situations like this. It happens all the time. But why are the boys brave? Because they haven't died? They are brave to get rescued in the only way possible...as opposed to being cowards and staying in that cave? They don't have any other choice. I'm not putting them down, but no need to predictably build them up as something they might not be. The rescuers deserve all the praise they get, as they are making a voluntary choice to put themselves in jeopardy.
Best summed up in the "Timmy-down-the well" episode of The Simpsons. (watch the last 15 seconds or so of this clip)

Re: Boys soccer team trapped in flooded cave.
Whatever faults those of us sweating the action from afar may have with the Thai plan, the fact is eight trapped kids have been freed because of it. Were I there I know that my preference would be one of the experienced divers, not a newbie, no matter how qualified he might be. This is a cautious approach, not a rushed one. One highly qualified diver has lost his life already. I hope the remaining four players and their coach will soon join their team outside.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.
