My lad watches kids cartoons. I’d love to wrest the iPad from him, but am fearful of the beating I’d get in return. I asked SWMBO what she thinks kids did before the internet, but I think she’s erased such memories from her memories. She often watches Thai dramas, with voice soundtrack played at >1.25x normal. You’d be forgiven for thinking most Cambodians spend too much time with helium.

I watch aviation incident/accident reports (Blancolirio), keep myself apprised with some military analysis (Ward Carrol), and watch documentaries on anything from WW2 events, science, current space efforts, and amuse/trigger myself watching the latest flat earth debunking(s).

I do conclude that far too many people (who watch YouTube ) have very short attention spans, and are not very interested or able to learn how to do complex things...
Ads are a pain at times, but tolerable.

You tube is invaluable for anything and everything .
I try to get the little one to Bluetooth the YouTube to the t.v. set to save the iPads batteries 🔋 🪫
Because the brave browser is on one of his few iPads but never gets used unless I pay close attention.
The ads are worse now and most annoying , but they give the kid a opportunity to hear how i can yell bad words .
I have some friends who make vids and i turn down the sound and disappear for a few minutes hoping they will
make a few cents thinking i am really watching the ads on thier vids ( 🫣maybe you have to click on them 🤷🏽‍♂️)
People I don’t like or don’t care 🤷🏽‍♀️ about i “ skip “ the ads - but I still cuss alot either quietly or aloud .
Even I got iTunes I still need the real links to you tube to post anything as a response ( like here ) to
I’m not going to post something to somebody from iTunes or with a “ brave “ middle man link .
I force myself not to click any communist tiktok or instagram or use any kind of vpn .. that’s cyber punk shit ..
i hate for the kid always glued to anything. But what can you do ? I want him to like me ..
soooooo
Since I’m so limited I got time to fiddle around and dilly dally with you time wasters here ..

...it just occurred to me... Maybe most people don't waste their time watching "how-to-invest in the stock market" videos since they don't have enough money to invest in the first place. Pardon my presumptuousness. Anyway, I didn't watch them either and am definitely too dumb to invest in the stock market, hmmm...

But then again, why would my friend the expert stock market analyst start devoting so much time to making YouTube videos about true crime when he is supposed to be such a shithot investor already?

Hmmm, something does not quite add up here... Maybe you can't make money on the stock market unless you have a million dollars to start with? I'm not going to ask him.

I only look at YouTube when I want to find a specific song, then use search function... I have not noticed many or any ads for music vids.

If you need videos or want to entertain your kids, just download a ton of cartoon vids from pirate bay or lime torrents...
YouTube has a lot more than songs and cartoons on it. It has millions of educational programs and tutorials to do almost anything.
The only ones I found useful were instructions about how to take apart hub bearings on my bicycle wheels.

The instruction videos get far fewer views compared to "true crime"...

Example: an old friend has a channel where he began making vids five years ago on stock market investing knowledge -- really serious in-depth stuff... Those instructional videos got 3,000 to 5,000 views on average... Then, he started producing hour-long to 90-minute slick commentary vids using real-life police detectives interviewing criminals about their crimes... Those vids get 20,000 to 1.5 million views. All his source material is from the U.S. ... anyway, based on his example, I concluded that people who watch YouTube must mostly be generally uneducated and not very interested or able to learn how to do difficult things...

I rest my case...
That's a bit like saying your friend wrote a book, and it's brilliant (in his mind at least) but trashy Mills and Boon romance novels are much more popular, libraries must therefore be mostly crap and only vacuous people would go into one, and when you went into a library once the first thing you saw was a shelf full of books for children so that just proves how stupid libraries are.

When I don’t understand something on the NYSORA!app, I turn to YouTube. They will have many videos about what I need to know.

Of course I fake it until I make it.

The analogy is good, but your reasoning is weak.

I think it is quite obvious by my friend's real life example, that -- statistically speaking -- the vast majority of videos that get the most views on YouTube consist of vacuous, trashy fluff of no redeeming or educational value. Period.

Staring at the belly button of criminal pathology or car/truck accident videos ain't gonna teach you much...

My friend is obviously doing it only for the money and doesn't give a shit, lol...

One of my YT favs are the old episodes of Gomer Pyle USMC. Aways cracks me up.

And for health stuff, I watch Doctors Eric Berg, William Li and Jason Fung ... all brilliant teachers.

This morning I watched Kill Tony. He does a weekly comedy show live from Austin Texas ... always a hoot if you are into stand up comedy stuff.

I read somewhere that music videos get the most clicks. I don't see what's wrong with that. People watch YT for entertainment - you may consider what they watch to be of no redeeming value (not everyone is into car wrecks and true crime - there's a huge range of interests out there) but to each his own. I don't see anything wrong with entertainment either.

How-to videos are also very popular, despite your friend's example.

Saw an interesting article....

"A new Pew Research Center survey of U.S. adults finds that these users are turning to YouTube for much more than entertainment. Roughly half of YouTube users say the platform is very important for helping them figure out how to do things they’ve never done before. That works out to 35% of all U.S. adults, once both users and non-users of the site are accounted for. And around one-in-five YouTube users (representing 13% of the total adult population) say it is very important for helping them understand events that are happening in the world."

www.pewresearch.org/internet/2018/11/07 ... o-lessons/

But anyway, if you can't find anything that interests you among the billion or so videos on YT, fair enough, don't watch it I suppose.
