Simple solution: stop using/watching YouTube. Seriously, it is 98% trash...

I only look at YouTube when I want to find a specific song, then use search function... I have not noticed many or any ads for music vids.

If you need videos or want to entertain your kids, just download a ton of cartoon vids from pirate bay or lime torrents...

YouTube has a lot more than songs and cartoons on it. It has millions of educational programs and tutorials to do almost anything.

I think it's great, and an awesome resource.

For recreation there's music, news, cool documentary-type channels, travel channels, comedians, old movies and tv series, audiobooks, podcasts ... there are hundreds of channels catering to whatever you're interested in.

For education and research, you can learn about almost anything you want to know. Plan your next travel experience, learn a language, learn to cook a new dish, watch product reviews before you buy something, learn to play a musical instrument, how to fix your ____ (anything), get a stain out of your shirt, start a garden ... pretty much any life skill you can think of.

I honestly don't understand how anyone would think it's mostly trash. To each his own I suppose.

Instead of complicated tricks to avoid the Premium payment option, i prefer to pay a Premium from a cheaper country, thanks to my VPN ^^

...But the audio quality for music on Youtube IS trash, so getting a quality audio is obviously elsewhere. It's great for video clips though, and good for the variety of sourcing.

There is loads of trash, but as long as you're not finished with the quality material available, who cares ?
It's not about what you know, it's about things people don't even know they don't know.
Basically, the point of discoveries and culture ^^
And don't start me on languages learning, what a beautiful tool.
And science vulgarization.
And on & on...

I guess your main focus is on the trash side of it ^^

It’s only a reflection of the viewers watching habits.

Stop looking at trash!

Yes. I installed it no problem , but ..
It Turns out to be Useless for a kid who can not read , write , or search on internet browser .
He needs the you tube app with the picture previews of the different viewing options
Then stop grumbling about the ads on Youtube!

Brave is a web browser. How difficult could it be for a loving father, such as yourself, to type in Youtube dot com, then bookmark it for your kid. He then only has to click on the YT icon that you have bookmarked (the bookmark will sit right there in front of him on the front of the browser). No reading necessary.

You might even extend yourself to typing in a few searches that he might be interested in. After that, Youtube will automatically serve up similar stuff every time he clicks on that YT icon.

No, wait! You're right. That's all far too difficult for anyone to do. So much easier to complain about all the Ads.

That might require some actual fathering to take place so preposterous!

If all you search for and watch is trash, then trash is all YouTube is. If you search for and watch quality, educational and informative content, then YouTube is quality, educational, informative content.

It really is whatever you use it for. It's all I ever watch these days, and I never watch trash.

Use Brave browser, on mobile and desktop: https://brave.com/

No ad-blocker or Pi-Hole needed.

Haven't seen ads for ages. Only annoying thing is content creators increasingly start peddling wares in the video itself which does not get skipped obviously.

YouTube has a lot more than songs and cartoons on it. It has millions of educational programs and tutorials to do almost anything.
The only ones I found useful were instructions about how to take apart hub bearings on my bicycle wheels.

The instruction videos get far fewer views compared to "true crime"...

Example: an old friend has a channel where he began making vids five years ago on stock market investing knowledge -- really serious in-depth stuff... Those instructional videos got 3,000 to 5,000 views on average... Then, he started producing hour-long to 90-minute slick commentary vids using real-life police detectives interviewing criminals about their crimes... Those vids get 20,000 to 1.5 million views. All his source material is from the U.S. ... anyway, based on his example, I concluded that people who watch YouTube must mostly be generally uneducated and not very interested or able to learn how to do difficult things...

I rest my case...
