"Your parcel... " Flubot scams

Post by SternAAlbifrons »

Despite rigorously playing "whack a mole" and blocking the numbers - i am getting more and more of these scam SMS messages.
Now about 6 per day, different numbers, different highly suspect link address.

Is this rapid escalation happening everywhere? to everyone?
Any simple solutions? (i'm a dementia case with tech)

I am worried that they might start coming in with link addresses that will look a lot more like my legit deliverers tracking messages.

I'm having to delete/block on average 3 per day.
It was on the news last week that the latest can access your passwords.
I don't have any banking apps etc on my phone & if I need to access my accounts I will go to there site & log in.
Likewise with deliveries, go to there site & enter the tracking number.
Friends on Fb are experiencing the same deal!

Whatever you do just don't answer the phone to them, if you have credit on your account they can just zap it all away.

If you're able I'd suggest getting a new number, my family and I haven't received any scam calls or texts.

Interesting. I don't use social media and have never received a single one of these texts. First time I hear about it.

Suppose it's some Facebook phishing that's harvesting contacts. A friend showed me some odd offers the other day, the typical "see who is watching your profile" kind of thing. Imagine that works quite well with the locals and education regarding online scams has probably not been thought of yet.

Maybe you can find some crowd sourced app that helps block these numbers? I'm not up-to-date on this since I don't have issues but have used such apps in the past with somewhat success. Albeit not in Cambodia.

I use Facebook and don’t receive them (yet). My mother doesn’t use Facebook and receives them (not in Cambodia)
Despite what angsta states, it’s clear from reading through his posts that angsta supports the free FreePalestine movement.

I'm a business owner in Sydney with multiple listings, Fb could be a very plausible link!
I don't think they are specifically targeted, we have been in lock down for some time now & most people are doing online purchases hence the scam is becoming more prolific. I,ve been getting them for years now but this latest one doesn't require any input & will access your details soon as you press on the link (so i believe).
There is no app that can stop it as the numbers they use are hijacked!

I see it's actually malware installed on your phone and spreading that way. Good read here: https://www.scamwatch.gov.au/news-alert ... ubot-scams

If you're on Android make sure that you have turned off (this is default) the ability to install apps from 3rd parties.

This way if you accidentally click one time too many at least you will get a warning.
