why doescmy computer think I am in Vietnam?

I am in Cambodia, nowhere near the border. Yet google turns into google.vn and Amazon (or maybe it is ebay) quotes prices in dong.

Your ISP has their servers based in Vietnam, so that's where you're actually surfing from. The wires at your house go there before to the internet... so the internet doesn't know you're not there.

I have the same problem. I wish they would just knock on the door, ring the bell, and they would know , I'm not there. I'm so paranoia about some commie or ASIC/CIA spy, spying on me I have even covered over the camera on my computer here in Alaska.

Cambodia gets its Internet via Thailand and Vietnam. Depending on what the IP block that you are assigned to your geoloc will differ.

There's no practical way of connecting IP addresses with geographic locations, it's a guessing game.
