Why does CEO keep asking for access to my keychain?

Post by xandreu »

I have recently switched to Safari on my Mac, and despite being fully logged in, whenever I want to create a post or reply to a post, I get this pop up.

I always click deny and the post get posted as per usual anyway.

Anyone know why this is happening. It seems to be something related to Safari, as it never used to do it when I used Brave.

Cookie settings?

I don’t know, myself. But I use Safari 95% for everything. Occasionally, in the past, with some forum (or OS) updates, I’ve had similar issues. I have my anti-cookie settings at most Aggressive.

I’ve never had that pop up on my MacBook; always use Safari.

Maybe see if you can disable the site in keychain? I have a MacBook, but almost always use Chrome, and I've never seen that.

I thought I found you a solution, but it remains unanswered on Apple: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/25 ... ortBy=best

Do you use more than one Apple device and different browsers to access CEO?

Doing a little Google search, using the text in the box (from your screen shot), the wording is very similar to what Microsoft also uses. Something of an industry ‘standard’?

It may be that, if you use an iPhone or iPad with Safari, normally, then the cross reference through iCloud that synchronises your keychain across all devices simply requires you to sign in on the new device using safari.

Yes I have recently switched to Safari from Brave both on my iPhone and Mac but I haven’t used my iPhone to post to CEO yet. I’m posting this using my iPhone to test if I get the same pop up. If so, you’re probably right in that it’s a keychain sync issue. Let’s see…

No, I'm back on my Mac now and I didn't get the same pop-up on when posting on my phone. I'm going to post this on my Mac and click the question mark to see what it says...

The is what I get when I click the question mark.

The thing is that I get the pop up as I click 'post', then I click 'deny', then the post posts anyway, then a few seconds later, the same pop up appears again after the post is posted.

I don't understand why it wants access to my keychain when I'm already logged in, and the post gets posted anyway, even if I click 'deny'.

I’m not as tech savvy on this stuff, anymore. But!

The keychain is where the encrypted password info is. I believe it is also part of the security that assesses risk based on website certificate validity, etc. ultimately, it’s just a well encrypted password list.
I’m trying to think back to when I’ve seen this, before. I think it’s occurred when I’ve had major OS updates on some devices, but possibly not all, as not all devices are in the same place at the same time. Or, where iCloud needs me to login again to my iCloud account if I made updates on one device. Part of the security to make sure that one device hasn’t been compromised.

Worst case, you could do a chat consultation with the Apple techs who will walk you through any steps or clarify any concerns.

I still have no idea. It does seem that it's only asking for the password to this single site, so obviously you could just set it to always allow, but maybe that's not how it's supposed to work.

We also haven't done any update in the past few days that would have somehow triggered it to ask you again or change the security settings, so no clue what would be causing this. I could also see if you were logged out and it kept offering to log you in with the credentials it has for the site, but since you're already logged in, that doesn't apply.

Maybe delete all site data and cookies and see if that resets what ever's happening once you login again for the first time after a fresh start.
