Is the internet killing fads off quicker

I found this article this morning very interesting and is a good theory...

Pokemon Go and the lifespan of fads in the internet age

Pokemon Go had some problems of its own making, which may have prematurely squelched some enthusiasm for it.

Pokemon Go took the world by storm last month. But just last week, there was already a slew of articles declaring the game all but dead.

A report from Bloomberg showed that Pokemon Go was already "in decline", including charts from Axiom Management that fewer people are playing the game every day, and that the people who are playing aren't playing for quite as long.

In other words, the red-hot game seems to be cooling fast, according to these statistics, even though the game is barely two months old. And with its apparent decline, one might easily wonder: is the half-life of a fad getting shorter too?

In some ways, yes.

"The internet has accelerated the spread of fads and shortened their lifespans," said Robert Bartholomew, a New Zealand-based sociologist who recently examined Pokemon Go for Psychology Today.

"I also think we are seeing more fads but they are flaming out much quicker on average."

For example, one of history's most famous fads, the hula hoop, took weeks to catch on across the globe and was the it-toy of 1958.

As a Pokemon Go player myself (don't tell anyone though), I think it's spiraling down because they haven't been able to add all the promised features quick enough.

Your supposed to have a radar telling you where Pokemon are, be able to battle trainers and also trade things with other trainers, but NONE of these are available.

And specifically in Phnom Penh, it's pretty boring here.

There are very few Pokestops and gyms are in weird places.

It was a lot of fun in Bali. You couldn't go a block without passing a Pokestop.

So they better add these promised features soon, as doing nothing but find the same old Pokemon, raiding Pokestops and lame battles at gyms can't keep this generation's attention got very long.

its not just fads, the internet and the viral generation has killed off everything

thats why we are now in a generation where Headliner sized bands will fail to exist, or even bands to get big,
now that the internet makes accessing bands much more easy its harder for bands to stand out, and keep the popularity going
that is now the reason why bands/artists are having to push music out quicker, they was talking about it on the radio the other day actually
that a lot of singers now have gone back to just releasing EP's now because of the new streaming generation the need for Albums is no longer a big thing

people are sheep, the new facebook generation is just full of sheep, #viral

I agree with Punchy McShortstack, again. The internet in all its glory as done a lot of good but it is slowly killing off a lot of valuable things.

Haha, nothing that exciting. Just a virtual location where you go and get power-ups and eggs.

As you can see, the closest one to me is several blocks away from me right now. I can't be bothered to go there.

Next to the Pokestop in the screenshot is a gym where trainers battle their Pokemon.
