Scammers are at it again, impersonating well-known businesses and trying to rip people off. This time they’re pretending to be from Geek Squad, Best Buy’s tech support service. Here’s what we’re hearing about the scam and what to do if you see it.

You get a text message or email that says you were or will be charged hundreds of dollars to renew your Geek Squad membership. If you want to dispute the charge or cancel your membership, the message says you must call a phone number within 24 hours.

If you call the number — which you should not do — the scammer might ask for remote access to your computer. If you give it to them, they can install spyware programs on your computer, steal your online banking credentials, and drain money from your bank account.

I guess the Nigerian prince wanting to send money (out of kindness) got old. Off to a new shiny scam. Now I mostly use alias email addresses so I can cut these critters off at the path.

The 'best' ones have to be the Amazon SMS scams. They tell you your package is being held or that your order will be canceled if you don't update your payment method. I'm sure 1 out of 5 people they send it have made an Amazon purchase within the past 24 hours.

I use for years the basic microsoft antivirus and spyware programme, for free.
And if something is in my spambox, i even dont try to open it !!
Been scammed once about 8 years ago clicking on a link from my mobile-phone-provider saying i didnt pay last invoice what was pretty high, but not impossible in my bussiness: all my photos where encrypted and i never get them back !! ?? Neverever clicked on a unknown link since then !! Strangely all my excel-files including all my accountancy wasnt touched, that would have been a disaster !!

Gosh, as soon as I read that I thought, which government, which politician, which bank, which real estate salesman, are you going to be talking about.
