a new camera

Post by tightenupvolume1 »

I have been using a cheap (£100) digital camera for a while. I am looking now for a new one for my forthcoming trip. I want one that i can point and shoot without that small delay whilst it settles on the screen, if that makes sense. I am in london so i don,t need advice on where to go in KOW.
Any photographers here with any tips? I can spend up to £150 but will go to £200.
cheers

Hi Charlie, in terms of getting bang for your buck I think ebay is worth considering. I've built up an excellent collection of quality lenses all in perfect condition for reasonable prices. From experience I would say anything effectively secondhand goes for about 50% of the new price so your budget could translate to a 300-400 quid camera. My friend gets great results out of a little point and shoot Canon big zoom range , so maybe worth looking on the Canon, Olympus, Sony and Panasonic websites setting your 400 pound budget and see what you get and then search for that model on ebay.

I am too late for e bay, i fly to bombay in 10 days, too late if there is a problem. I am looking at Jessops and PC world online and tomorrow i am going out to see what i can find in a couple of shops. Nikon, Sony or Cannon seem to be the ones in my price range.
If any of you can be bothered to have a look at what they have and post a reply/tips great, but no problem.
cheers

Take a look at the Canon Powershot SX620, probably more than capable for what you want, 20MP and 25*zoom with good wide angle as well. 199 in Jessops. There is a neat feature where it gives you 5 different looks to each image. For comparison purposes look at the Sony Cyber-shot DSC-WX350 at 169.

Get a Sony with a Zeis lens if they still put them on them. The lag you talk about is a pain, so just go into the high street and check them out. Don't have up to date model info but Sony have great electronics and Zeis are an excellent lens. 200 should get you a good compact camera.
Another thing to look for is a high iso value. 3200 or 6400 is what you're after. The higher the better for those low light shots.
See crook!!!
