i need a strong wifi for speaking on Blackboard

Post by armchairlawyer »

I had to give a talk on Blackboard (similar to Zoom) yesterday at 11pm and I got feedback that the sound quality was not good, breaking up etc.
I turned off my camera and switched between my Metfone wifi and Cellcard 4G LTE tethered from my phone but problems continued intermittently.
I have to give more talks today at 5pm and 11pm and weekly thereafter. I'm guessing the 5pm experience is going to be worse.
Is there some hotel that has really good wifi, or office I can rent by the day? Money no object, sort of.

if money is no object -- you cant go wrong with any of the fiber internet providers
do not buy the home plan, get the business plans
routers and installation in general have significantly better quality

go to google, search fiber internet provider cambodia, everyone claims to be the best and premium, if you are in a fancy condo your choices might be limited --- better ask your landlord / management, I know Peng Hout only allows one company and everyone there pretty much have sucky internet.... start messaging their facebook pages and good luck

Stay clear of Sing Meng. Two iPads online, and we start getting problems. We’re supposed to have high speed fiber, but it is not nearly as good as that third world stuff in the UK!

I forgot about SingMeng, lol yes tried to get them before --- they were snubbish sons of B@#$%s , dont really care much about small users, my current apartment uses them... they really strong in signing larger chinese apartment / condos, down at least once every week, i had to insist getting my own line from a different ISP.

Thanks Rocky, I appreciate that. My need is short term so I'd rather just book into a hotel for a small number of separate nights, if there are any hotels with really good wifi.
BTW, do you know - if I have dual SIMs in my phone, does the phone amalgamate from both SIMs or does it choose just one and go with that?
And, when you tether - do you get an equal amount of internet power as you would get from using the phone or is some lost in the tethering process?

with 2 sims, check ur settings ( mijne has a "dual sim card settings" ) as it there you can set which sim uses internet, which for telephone

Always found same , but u should have a choice USB, Portable WiFi hotspot and set up WiFi hotspot..and even possibly Bluetooth
no real loss
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

The short answer is no.

Dual SIM phones are not like multi-band WIFI routers. Routers are big for a reason. One reason is multiple beam forming antennas for starters. Dual SIM phones can’t combine signals to increase speed. However, one slot is usually reserved for internet, and one for voice. On older or cheaper phones, slot 1 is 4G enabled, while slot 2 is not.

Tethering of a cellphone definitely reduces bandwidth (speed). Internet signal needs to come to the cellphone, then retransmitted to the computer (either through WIFI or Bluetooth connection.), and then repeated from the computer back to the cellphone to be sent out.

Hotel internet is generally poor. Just think of it from
the hotel’s point of view. Your getting it for free. Why would the hotel give you a high quality, possibly fiber line, when they can just save it for themselves?
Internet cafe (if any left), will probably have good internet, because customers pay for the internet.

Quite a few members use SMART@Home with good results. It uses a different network than the ordinary SMART phone network, so will be less crowded and thus faster.

Good luck!

Yes, when I told her I may need to do this, she did give me the look.
