Well the oculus should lauch in one years, you can already order the develloper version
The device itself is not that expensive but you need at least a 1000$ gaming computer to make it run (1500$) is safer.
Also you need to tinker with the software a bit, this is not something that is plug and play.
I doubte that many foreigne will invest in a 2000$ gaming device plus the consumer version is even more demanding in power so your are looking at close to 3000$ price tag for one ready to play device.

In short a lot of people will want to play on virtual reality but few will be able to afford it, especially in Cambodia (most foreigner I know would have other priority than a gaming rig with 3000$ in cash).

This is the perfect device for a gaming center.
Like aracd game in the past, way better than anything we had at home, but too expensive to buy, end results we went to game center.

PS: If you plan to open a game center and do not know about VR you should look very actively into it. Oculus is the company that FB bought for 2 milliard dollars. Sony will also market a VR cask one years but the problematic stay the same you will still need a very powerfull and expensive computer to make it work so this is the future for game center.

I'm not sure what the exchange rate is between the USD and the milliard, but Facebook paid $2b USD for Oculus.

Edit: VR will run convincingly from a smartphone - proof of concept kits are already available.

Yes VR will run with a phone, VR work as long as you can display two images of the same object slightly off two each other.
So a phone with a splited screen can do it.
What is availlable for the phone is small demo with limited graphic, movie are possible but anything where you want interaction with the environment need processing power
What a phone CANNOT do is any serious gaming.
You want to play racing game, FPS, you look at 1000$ of hardware minimum not including the price of the head set.

Perfect for gaming center

Happy to show you my Oculus Rift running off a low end laptop with onboard graphics if you like. TF2 in VR mode is a little more than a demo.

Ho you can play to this with your low end pc ?

To the best of my knowledge you need serious hardward for recent game compatible with the rift.

I would pay 10$ an hours for access to this type of installation

You mentioned FPS games - TF2 is a great example of recent FPS games. It runs on my Toshiba Satellite and Rift with stock RAM and dedicated onboard GPU.

Elite Dangerous does have an impressive title, but at least read the specifications before putting it out there as a high spec game. Here you go:

It requires Windows 7 or 8 and a constant Internet connection - I'll say no more.

Nice bit of research there, Sherlock. Now how about the VR release?

Can focus on the topic of the tread please ?

The subject is not what StroppyChops have but option for a gaming center in Phnom penh.
My personal opinion on the matter (as the proud owner of one second hand tablet and a first price laptop) is that there is a market for relatively high end VR gaming.
By high end I means not low resolution VR with outdated game running of a laptop that I am sad to admit even if low end is still more powerfull than mine ( I do not have a graphic card).
I follow the evolution of the VR gaming relatively closely and unfortunately for quality gaming you need powerful computer, I suppose that some will be ready to make the investment but for the vast majority gaming center will be the obvious solution.

So far to my knowledge this kind of gaming is not available here. The PC needed are powerful but not THAT powerful if you are looking at opening a gaming center.

PS : for the OP most of the post of StroppyChop were 90% bragging about the fact that he has a DK1 but even if his comment about VR on phone being a reality and gaming on an old laptop display a total lack of expertise on the subject verging toward parody, there is one point where he is dead on. VR for gaming is a world apart from normal gaming, if you look for something for making a difference that would be my bet.

Nope, apparently not.
