Free antivirus...joke.
Avast/Avira, free shite.
The myth that Linux/Apple cannot be screwed is coming to an end
Pay $11 and get 1 year Kaspersky. Combined with Malwarebytes, brilliant!
Android Kaspersky offers phone lock/locate options free if you have a registered 1 year version.
When I have to advise people to pay for stuff, you know it's bad

Re: Anti Virus
Never had a technical problem with Avast!, had it running on six devices at one point. Although the current upselling to a paid product gets tiring.

It's important that you remember you ONLY have antivirus protection, so you need other free programs for malware, etc...
The ripoff paid bundles come with everything else, all-in-one.
That's it.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
Re: Anti Virus
Exactly the combination I use. Kaspersky and Malwarebytes. I even paid $4 extra for the suite, as having better access to tweaking the firewall + the Excellent "AntiBanner" adblocker (much better than adblock+) was worth it to me. Kaspersky has the best prevention and unlike other AV brands in Cambodia, it's pricing has been designed for Cambodia (Less than a third of what I would pay in Singapore).vladimir wrote:Free antivirus...joke.

Using Avast is dangerous IMO. It is sort of like Windows ---- so popular it makes it an appealing target for those looking to circumvent an AV and because it is free it appeals to the less security conscious who are more likely to do something dumb online.

Re: Anti Virus
If you know your system and know your network you'll be able to tell if you get infected of not. No need for anti virus. Keep your OS and software up to date, no pirated software, don't browse dubious sites, disable autoplay on usb, don't open email attachments unless you know exactly what they are and don't have admin on your user account.
Re: Anti Virus
Still not foolproof if you download any executables at all. Your advice about not using an admin account is spot on although most people (including myself ) tend to ignore this.Digg3r wrote:If you know your system and know your network you'll be able to tell if you get infected of not. Re: Anti Virus
A bigger risk these days is using the same password for email, Facebook, games, etc. and banking.

Re: Anti Virus
Only fools do that. I use a password manager called lastpass. Industry leader and probably secure to all except the NSAStroppyChops wrote:A bigger risk these days is using the same password for email, Facebook, games, etc. and banking.
