Alibaba to test delivery drones

Post by StroppyChops »

Alibaba is about to test delivery drones for it's Amazon-esque country, delivering up to 450 orders by drone to test the concept.

Reasons why this wouldn't work in America:

1. Rednecks
2. Firearms
3. Rednecks with firearms

Amazon wanted to do it for a couple years and the Gov shut 'em down. Looks like they're going to have to test outside the US. They definitely would become cannon fodder in parts of the US. Kinda like all year duck hunting.

Be interesting to see how long it takes Amazon to affect legislation making it an offence to interfere with the drones. I imagine they'll make more of a crime than personal offenses, as money is involved. I couldn't honestly tell you that I wouldn't take a crack at unmanned delivery drones, the temptation would be a little too high. In my head, I'd hear "it's duck huntin' season", " it's WABBIT season" etc. You just read that in Bugs' and Daffy's voices.

You see drones in the Seattle area every now and then. They're usually unmarked but I wouldn't be surprised to find out they're Amazon's (or Microsoft's or some tech startup). Until the company realized how creepy it seemed, they were even advertising their drone vision heavily. I wouldn't mind drones without cameras for delivery. I guess we live in a world with drones now, so the best we can do is regulate how and when they're used, who can buy them, camera functionality, etc.

Rednecks won't shoot just anything. Killing unarmed black kids is one thing, but a multithousand dollar item belonging to a giant multinational? They would never get away with it!

Has Alibaba had any new ideas or created anything original ever, or do they exclusively copy the exact business models of successful American companies and then bask protected behind Chinese government-sponsored, anti-foreign corporate business barriers? The same goes for their manufacturers. Cyber intellectual property thieves and patent infringers is all they are.

I've been playing around w/Alibaba the last few months. it appears to me that > half of sellers are scammers of one sort or another who want you to Western Union them the $$. I have maybe a 25% response rate from legit long term sellers who take Pay Pal or CCs. Not so encouraging so far.

Image
Und der Haifisch der hat Tränen
Und die laufen vom Gesicht
Doch der Haifisch lebt im Wasser
So die Tränen sieht man nicht

In der Tiefe ist es einsam
Und so manche Träne fliesst
Und so kommt es dass das Wasser
In den Meeren salzig ist

In America we call it shooting skeet. Fast moving targets sharpen you up for hunting season. I wonder if any of the drug cartels south of the border have figured out an air force of these cheap drones could overwhelm the drug police/Nazi's? You launce a thousand of these things that are computer/GPS controlled and only you know which ones are carrying nose candy. You want deliveries? Now that's a money making delivery system.
