ABA APP Security - Strengths and Weaknesses - a Users Guide
Re: ABA APP Security - Strengths and Weaknesses - a Users Guide
That was just an easiest example. There are other options they can get user secret. In my bank in Europe 7k is max limit u can do online. I think that is reasonable amount that covers 99% of daily transfers.
That also helps to avoid famous cases when users transferred 10 000$ instead of same amount of riels.
Re: ABA APP Security - Strengths and Weaknesses - a Users Guide
I recently updated the ABA app. They endlessly ask you to update it, so this has become a regular habit.
The app now requires the PIN instead of a fingerprint for all payments. It was previously set to fingerprint. I can't find out how to return it to the fingerprint confirmation, I don't like the PIN option.
Have they removed this option? I can't find how to change it back on the app.
I notice they are also promoting FacePass, which will act as a replacement for the secret word for higher amount transfers (now set very low). How can that be safe when we are hearing about the druggings or old fashioned passing out when drunk?

I've rejected all update prompts for around 8 months now. When it actually requires you to update eventually the app will become unaccessible until you hit the update button but that main update is less than once per year. So if you get it set the way you like it - stop updating every time it suggests it; which is once each time one opens the appDoc67 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 9:34 am I recently updated the ABA app. They endlessly ask you to update it, so this has become a regular habit.

Well maybe NOT rejecting their updates, which might well include security-related bug fixes of all sorts, should make the list of security recommendations as well. I would never reject an update for either the core Android system or any banking apps.

Similar to accepting site cookies; only do necessary app updates for best stability; anything critical to security becomes a mandatory update

So any answers to the fingerprint approval being removed? Has anyone else noticed this?

Doc. I just too a look under the big smiley face, top left.
The menu gives Security/Pay and transfer with fingerprint. Mine is set to off.
I set it to on, set my limit value, accept terms and conditions.
But as we’re heading to Europe, I’ll be unable to test it out for a while.

Nope, no fingerprint facility other than log-in. They are promoting FacePass which (I think) is a biometric facial recognition thingamibob and I don't want to set it up, in case you can't get rid of it.Freightdog wrote: ↑Mon Mar 11, 2024 4:38 pm Doc. ABA have some serious security issues. Rumours are running wild about people being cleaned out of their cash, and the scammers have even borrowed money from ABA by way of a loan secured on their deposit accounts, all done online, and withdrawn the loan funds too. So, even if your money is in a TD, it still isn't safe. So bang goes my great theory of locking it up. I got that nugget of info from someone I trust.
Re: ABA APP Security - Strengths and Weaknesses - a Users Guide
Yes .That is exactly what happened to myself .They were able to transfer money from my fixed deposit to my savings account before to clean it all by transfer to another ABA account .
Re: ABA APP Security - Strengths and Weaknesses - a Users Guide
As far as I understand, the funds within the Fixed Deposit accounts (TD's) are still there, but they (or you) can borrow up to 90% of the locked value. Once the loan is approved, instantly and all online, the TD's are then further locked beyond the term date until the loan is repaid. The don't take to the deposit funds, but they leave you with a loan liability of 90% of the locked funds, which amounts to the same thing.
