The Rumble In The Jungle
The Rumble In The Jungle
40 years on. I just watched it in honour of these two great sportsmen. Still wonderful to watch. The venue, the mayhem after the fight, the atmosphere and of course the two fighters. Foreman a real monster - klitschko and the likes would shit there pants before the fight when facing him. And then of course Ali, the combination of size, weight and speed is just totally unique. Could take punches also and improvise like no other. A blessing for you guys who were able to watch it live. Ali bumaye

And I don't even know these people you're talking about.

I also watched it a few weeks ago. It must have been amazing live. However, I think top modern fighters would be able to handle Ali. I personally think he was/is a bit overrated to be honest. Still an amazing sportsman.

Wonder how Ali would have fared against a young, all conquering Tyson coming at him all guns blazing? That would have intimidated anyone.

Re: The Rumble In The Jungle
I'd put my money on Ali over Tyson.
Before the old man died Tyson was amazing though. People talk about the guys power, speed and savagery, but what I liked was his ability to duck and weave.
Edit.
The old man died before Tyson became champ so my above comment is redundant. I still wonder if Tyson could have avoided a lot of his troubles if Cus had been around a bit longer.

I'd suggest wondering how Tyson would have fared if he'd been around when Ali, Frazier, Foreman and Norton were all n their prime.Joker Poker wrote:Wonder how Ali would have fared against a young, all conquering Tyson coming at him all guns blazing? That would have intimidated anyone.

I was working for The Rank Organization when the Rumble occurred, so got to see it, for free, on the big screen, at the Odeon Leicester Square.

Yeah, I've wondered the same thing MM. No doubt that he lost his way after the death, pretty sure the answer would be yes - but I suppose the dealing with the fame and money would have the potential to derail anyone regardless of their inner-circle.MoodyMonkey wrote:I still wonder if Tyson could have avoided a lot of his troubles if Cus had been around a bit longer.
