Football - Euro 2021

Post by hburns »

The clue is in the name but for our American friends it's the football played with the feet not the football played with your hands. Starts in an hour

C'mon Scotland.

Hoping for a decent showing, slowly but surely we're getting the makings of the best team we've had for years. A bit lacking up front but some quality youngsters coming through so I'm optimistic for the future
Yes sir, I can boogie, I can boogie, boogie, boogie all night long.

I see Scotland's management have caved into England's woke army and agreed to 'take the knee' at Wembley. However, they won't be repeating the gesture at Hampden Park against Croatia or the Czech Republic. Maybe because neither of those sides will have any time for that nonsense and the fine people of Scotland don't like getting on their knees for anyone. Quite right too.

It will be interesting to see if England carry on with this ass-kissing when they go away from home. Personally, I hope they get booed off the park if they do.

Scotland have made a partial U-turn and decided to take the knee when they face England at Wembley next Friday but will not make the anti-racism gesture before their other Group D games, against the Czech Republic and Croatia, at Hampden Park.

River Crown is remarketing itself as Riverside "Sports" bar, or something like that. They have got a lot of the TV's and furniture from Cheers bar (same owner apparently). It looks very comfortable.

The problem with Score bar is they have the best set up and reliable streaming and 15 people barely fills the bar area.
They will attract a lot of people for these games and I don't see how they are going to get around the maximum 15 people rule, and they are so exposed so there is no hiding.

I don't think there is a 15 person rule. It is supposed to be no more than 15 in a group.

BKK & TTP also being a lot more relaxed about it than Daun Penh

I think some of these rules are unwritten and unevenly applied. But it can be used as an excuse when they feel like it. Harry's have been told most clearly, it's 15 people, in total, indoors - and told to put signs up to that effect. Plus social distancing (chair spacing) and staff masks etc.

However, Score Bar is open air so that might get them a pass to some degree. Gonna be difficult to keep the numbers down once there is a big match and social distancing is futile to try to enforce and utterly pointless.

Still can't get up for footy tournaments at the moment. Lost interest in the EPL this year as the stadium atmos was absolutely diabolical, like watching training ground matches. Fingers crossed all this COVID nonsense is over in time for the 2021/22 season.

It is also "kneeling down" - no knees get taken, only chairs, seats, pews, etc. Whatever happened to whinging when Americans abuse our language, bloody snowflake generation! #OldGit :D

I've got absolutely zero interest either way in any sideshow political/social debates that unfortunately seem to be part of just about every sporting occasion these days. I mute pre-match build ups, half-time analysis and post-match interviews.

For a blissful 90 minutes I can enjoy watching the team I love and escape the negativity and protest obsessed world we seem to live in these days.

Sport is supposed to be an escape from all the crap.

Do you think it’s going to get any better when the Covid restrictions are lifted?
The FA are talking about banning supporters who boo players taking a knee, how long before they stop fans from booing players for playing badly, or scoring against their team?
Next they’ll stop you from cheering the scoring of goals because it’ll hurt the other teams feelings.
Better prepare yourself for the future, you will no longer be supporters, rather you’ll be like the audience at the theater or the opera. You’ll have to sit there in total silence until the final whistle, then, and only then, will you be allowed to applaud (for both teams obviously)
Remember to bring some mints or throat lozenges to stop you from being ejected from the ground for coughing.
