Cambodia Sailing Federation recognized internationally

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

2 August 2017
- Cambodia’s Sailing Federation has been recognised by World Sailing, the world governing body for the sport which is accredited by the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee, providing a boost to the kingdom’s nascent sailing community.

The news was announced at the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia headquarters yesterday morning and officials said they hoped the recognition would help the kingdom’s sailors build towards a successful 2023 Southeast Asia Games, which it will host.

Thong Rathasak, the secretary general of the federation, said that membership of World Sailing was a victory for the sport in Cambodia, which has both a limited participation and short history.

Five Cambodian sailors taking part in Malaysia’s Johor Regatta
20 April 2018
A squad of five Cambodian sailors and three officials are in Malaysia for the 2018 Johor International Regatta, which starts on Friday and concludes on Sunday.

The move by the Cambodian Sailing Federation (CSF) comes as part of a drive to sharpen the competitive skills of the national squad ahead of their Asian Games debut in August.

While Duch Bunthuoen is participating in the Laser standard invitational, Soth Mesa and Heang Sunheng are taking part in the windsurfing Techno open. Nhov Chan is competing in the Laser 4.7 boys, with Pal Seayla the only entry in the windsurfing open invitational.

Cambodian sailors will also be taking part in two major events over the next three weeks before heading to China for an intensive training camp from May 11 until the third week of August before their departure for the Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games in Indonesia.

After the Johor event, the Kingdom’s squad will compete in Thailand’s Pattaya International Windsurfing Cup from April 27-29 at Jomtien Beach, before attending the ASAF Youth Championship at the Royal Varuna Yacht Club in Pattaya.

Cambodian sailor to compete in Singapore
16 November 2018
The Cambodian Sailing Federation (CSF) has named promising youngster Nhov Chan to compete in the three-day Singapore National Sailing Championship hitting the bay on Thursday, while Federation officials Som Sothrithypong and Yin Keo Vesna will undergo a short term internship on Sailing Management, Development and Racing.

The NSC Cup is an annual attraction preferred by many regional and several top local sailors and serves as an ideal build-up for next year’s SEA Games in the Philippines.

For Nhov Chan, who has been part of CSF’s year-long training programs in the wake of August’s Asian Games, it is a breakthrough on the competition front to challenge seasoned sailors.

The two officials, who had already spent nearly a week as understudies at the Singapore Sailing Federation, will complete the first-of-its-kind administrative initiative on November 19.

Meanwhile Nhov Chan picked up his first win, in a race with former seasoned sailors, boosting his confidence for when he takes to the water on Friday at a much higher level. AFP
