British Teenager wins US Tennis Open

Post by Doc67 »

She entered as a qualifier and won it without dropping a set.

She has only been a professional for 3 months.

The match was absolutely classic, she played really well. Her opponent Leylah was good too, but Emma definitely had the edge. She has been playing from the age of five so has had quite a bit of practice :D

Emma Raducanu is stupendously talented and one cool cucumber. In fact, I gave her the edge over fellow Canadian Leylah Fernandez. Who, by the way, defeated Naomi Osaka, Angelique Kerber, Elina Svitolina and Aryna Sabalenka on the way to the finals. Which says a lot about Emma's incredible ability and Leylah's. I have a feeling they're going to be meeting each other a lot over the net.

I just might watch some tennis this season. It's been a long time since I cared about the tennis world but these two are setting it on fire.

I love the way she paid homage to Virginia Wade who was there to watch.
As opposed to whining about how badly treated she is.
She has a great attitude.
When she froze in her last 16 match at Wimbledon, John McEnroe got slammed for saying she had buckled under the pressure. He was right of course.
Interesting that, instead of feeling sorry for herself and whining about middle aged men judging her, she got a new trainer, learned from the Wimbledon experience and blasted her way through all the opposition at the US Open.

That's most certainly a commendable achievement. And that's a nice fat monetary prize for an 18 year old. Or anyone for that matter.

And as usual certain people in the UK want to bring race into it.
