And the first Gold Medal of the Asian Games 2018 goes to ...

Sun up early for China with 1st Asian Games gold medal
19 August 2018
JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Sun Peiyuan won the first gold medal awarded at the 18th Asian Games with an acrobatic victory in wushu's changquan discipline ahead of local hope Edgar Marvelo.

The changquan competition started at 9 a.m. local time Sunday and was all over within an hour, with Sun scoring 9.75 to claim a gold medal in the same city where he won the world title in 2015.

Marvelo, who was inspired to take up wushu after watching movies starring Jet Li, Jackie Chan and Bruce Lee, gave host country Indonesia a silver at 9.72 and Tsai Tse-min of Taiwan picked up bronze.

Wushu, a Chinese martial art that was introduced to the Asian Games program in 1990 and translates to "long fist," has been something of a gold mine for China at the regional games.

Cambodian athletes seek Asian Games glory
The remaining members of Cambodia’s Asian Games squad depart for their Jakarta odyssey today with the support of the nation spurring them on in a competition which represents two-thirds of the earth’s population.

45 Cambodian athletes will participate in 13 sporting disciplines in the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Asian Games, chosen following a series of discussions between the NOCC and the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sports earlier this year.

“These 13 individual sports have a technical quality which Cambodia can compete in against other countries In Asia. They include taekwondo, gymnastics, swimming, athletics, and judo.

Cambodia's darling, the taekwondo champion Sorn Seavmey, is competing in the women's heavyweight (+67 kilograms) event at the 2018 Asian Games on 21 August 2018. She has recently recovered from a leg injury, so expectations are not as high as you would expect for someone of her experience. In 2014, Sorn Seavmey became the first Cambodian to win an Asian Games gold medal since 1954.

No news from the taekwondo, but here's a game of sepaktakraw - a spectacular sort of volleyball played with the feet. No idea of the rules.

Lots of time outs in this game. Here's a shorter sample with the highlights of match Thailand vs Korea.

Australian coach has high hopes for the Cambodian jet ski team.

Jet skiers out to turn reputation into medals
22 August 2018
Already earning reputations in the world of jet skiing, Cambodia’s Ou Moeut Saly and Mustan Min are tipped as medal contenders in the Asian Games at Ancol Beach near Jakarta, where the pair will compete in all four singles and doubles events starting on Wednesday.

The two Cambodians have often based themselves in Thailand while moving around continents, and have achieved astounding success in high-profile events like the Thai championships and King’s Cup, besides notable highs in the Australian and World Championships.

“They are among the best. I am more than confident that they will do well in some categories. They have been working hard for this for a while and they have just come back from a world tour. I expect them to win at least two medals, and possibly three,’’ the Australian coach [ Chris Talakouras] said.

“They will be taking part in all the four events. In two of which they will be together,” Talakouras told the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia’s Olympic Channel on Monday in the company of Saly and Min.

“I am happy that they are now at the top of the game. I am confident that they will be on the podium in at least two events,” Talakouras predicted.

Cambodians ready to set sail
23 August 2018
(sic)Tje three members Cambodian sailing team are ready for their Asian Games bow on Friday in Jakarta Bay for the first of the 12 scheduled races spread over six days in search of at least a medal or two in a sport that has grown rapidly in the Kingdom over the past three years.

From the Cambodian perspective, 16-year-old Soth Mesa, who has been training hard under elite Chinese coaches in the company of some of the best sailors in China since May, harnessing the wind on a newly purchased RSX as the first from the Kingdom will be an unforgettable experience of his life.

The teenager from Ream, near Sihanoukville, sat out as a reserve at last year’s SEA Games in Malaysia, but his transformation from being an energetic raw talent into an adventurous and skilful sailor has now thrust him to the forefront as the prime choice ahead of his friend and teammate Heng Heang, who also did the long stint in China with Mesa.

Copyright issues are making it difficult to bring you highlights of Asian Games events.
However, here is a short clip showing a game called Kabaddi. This is the women's match between India and Indonesia.

If anyone knows the rules, please explain.

Seavmey suffers heartbreak in Asian Games quarterfinal
22 August 2018
Cambodia’s fortunes swung wildly from lively anticipation to despair at the Jakarta Convention Center’s Plenary Hall on Tuesday as Sorn Seavmey, the Kingdom’s brightest taekwondo gold medal prospect in the ongoing 18th Asian Games, was knocked out of the women’s +67kg quarterfinals by Uzbekistan’s Svetlana Osipova 5-3 in a hard fought bout.

Not long earlier, the highly motivated Cassandra Nicole Tubbs suffered a heartbreakingly close 18-19 loss to Pham Thi Thu Hien of Vietnam in the women’s -57kg category round of 32.

Another Gold Medal for Cambodia !

Cambodia Wins Second Gold Medal in 2018 Asian Games, Ski Modified
25/08/18 17:38
Jakarta (FN), August 25 - Cambodia won the second gold medal at the 18th Asian Games in Indonesia, attained by Saly Ou Moeut in Ski Modified game.

Saly also won a bronze medal in Jet Skiing Runabout 1100 Stock this Saturday morning, according to Vath Chamroeun, Secretary General of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC).

Cambodia has won three gold medals in a history of the Asian Games so far.

The first one was by Sorn Seavmey in the 17th Asian Games held in South Korea 2014.

The second gold medal of Cambodia was won by American-Cambodian female athelete Khan Jessa in the Asian Games 2018 on Friday after beating Alhinaai Mahra from the United Arab Emirates in Jujutsu game - a Japanese martial art using close combat for defeating an armed and armored opponent, with only a short weapon or none at all.
