Re: Getting to Silk Island
Hi all, I'm looking to go to Silk Island tomorrow. Am I right in thinking that I can just get a ferry over there on foot, and no tuk-tuk, and just walk about myself? Everywhere I look online says you want to get a tuk-tuk over there for the day, but I just want to jumo on the ferry and have a walk ...

Re: If you learn Khmer, you may save on accommodation
Being kind and respectful will probably get you as much of a discount as learning kind of functional (or even very functional) Khmer would get you.

Re: Phnom Penh Rated as Worst ASEAN City for Personal Safety
Anecdotally, seems like a dangerous place for women, sometimes, but not so much men. Boys on scooters grabbing purses is what I'm mainly thinking of.

Try the hola free vpn extension first. if that doesn't work, get an expressvpn trial. I'm guessing in 2019, neither of those will work, though, but perhaps i'm wrong.

Re: I want to clear up some misunderstanding about the Chinese
A westerner might hear "Cambodia" and think of Angkor Wat and that Pol Pot guy, some sort of genocide.
What would a typical Chinese person think about Cambodia? What's the first thing that comes to mind?

Re: Beat the heat - head for the Cambodian highland provinces
Since the Tampuon tribe consider Yeak Laom to be a a living spirit — they're animists, for the most part — you can't stay right on the lake, at least when i was last there in early 2018, but you can stay very close. There's some homestays. There's another lake I prefer to stay on the shores of, just...

Re: Bauk. I have seen some reference to this before, in passing, but am not well aware of it. Where can I learn more? https://www.pri.org/stories/2013-09-13/why-some-men-cambodia-dont-think-gang-rape-gang-rape gives you an overview. https://universelles.net/2017/07/25/bauk-the-terrifying-trend-amon...

Re: Cambodia Sexual Health
"Bauk" or gangrape is a somewhat uniquely Cambodian problem. Other countries like Papua New Guinea have very high rates but Cambodia is alone in SE Asia with its astronomically high rates. Google the UN report on it, I think something like 1 in 5 men freely admit to participating in at le...
