Re: SLAVERY SMASHER: One former Mountie's crusade to end sex trafficking in Cambodia

In 23 years with the RCMP as a crime scene specialist, Brian McConaghy thought he’d seen it all. “Most of the guys who go to Cambodia are child predators but there are also opportunistic predators, they’re on holiday and think ‘why not?’ They’re usually interested in older children say 12-years-old...

Re: Thank God I’m Back in China

Yeah, fair enough. I just think the country isn't as bad as you said. For me, it just worked. I loved the attitude of the locals, and the daily rhythm of everyday life. My last job before returning to U.K was working at Camed. The English standards there were pretty decent; the students were very w...

Re: Thank God I’m Back in China

I think those are some harsh, unfair words from the OP regarding the KOW. Considering what the country has been through late last century, I think they cope very well. I found Phnom Penh charming and more relaxed than Bangkok; further, I found the Khmer to be more tolerant and less arrogant than th...

I did and it was a decent school in Brazzaville, which turns out to be a safer city than Nairobi.

Re: Thank God I’m Back in China

Cambodia is not for the faint hearted. Snowflakes melt very quickly in this heat. Interesting you should say that because I assumed the lack of abilities that I saw among my Cambodian students had to do with heat. I thought too much sun on their heads made them stupid or something. Don’t get me wro...

Re: Thank God I’m Back in Chi

Man, Chinese propaganda has hit you hard BB. Not true but having experienced teaching in China vs teaching in Cambodia and the attitudes of parents and administration in each country, I can make a fair comparison. Chinese parents care more about their kids education and are more proactive in gettin...

Re: Thank God I’m Back in China

Speaking of due diligence, how much was actually done by yourself prior to arriving in Cambodia on your mission to be a better teacher than they obviously deserve? Some of your early posts demonstrated a little naïveté in regards what to expect. No big surprise; there’s a lot about the country that...

Re: Thank God I’m Back in China

Tuition is https://westview.edu.kh/tuition-fee/ Was accomodation provided? That's a decent salary, albeit a bit less than ISPP. As you say, free school for kids and completion bonus make it more than enough for a family. Yeah, it's a new school so nothing to go off of (nada on ISR or Glassdoor). So...

Re: Thank God I’m Back in China

BB correct me if I'm mistaken but..... I don't know anything about Westview personally but I was under the impression they were at Northbridge / ISPP standards.... all teachers must have at least a master's and be a certified teacher in their home country and must have a decent amount of experience...
