Is there a tropical disease specialist or travel medicine clinic that you could visit where you live? They would usually be a bit more clued in with this stuff.

I also thought that the stories were exaggerated until I arrived there last september for work. completely shocked. I lasted in that job for 5 months. couldn't wait to leave!
