Re: Phnom Penh's Famous Sokha Hotel For Sale - Only $1.5b

Hey guys maybe he meant 1.5B riel and got misquoted 8) Maybe he believes that $1.5B = $150M... I've heard some Khmer get really lost when trying to quote large numbers. 🤣😅 Seriously, I ended up quietly looking up my Khmer numbers from a textbook because my Khmer teacher got lost after 1,000, even w...

Re: Phnom Penh's Famous Sokha Hotel For Sale - Only $1.5b

One data point I found was that Sino Land spent over S$500M 25 years ago on acquiring and converting the Fullerton in Singapore to a 399-room hotel. This was when Singapore’s GDP was 1/5th of today’s. Obviously I’m not saying the two are the same, but an optimistic investor with high hopes for the c...

Re: Phnom Penh's Famous Sokha Hotel For Sale - Only $1.5b

I guess he’s trying to strike while the iron’s hot, in terms of the hotel’s recent spell in the spotlight. While the current market seems to be a bit wobbly, I’ve a feeling that in 20-30 years time that land may actually be worth what he’s asking. If it's worth that in 20-30 years with an interest ...

Sure, it's a ridiculous price. The only time that hotel was ever busy was when people were forced to quarantine there. I suppose they need money to build more white elephants on Bokor. I guess he’s trying to strike while the iron’s hot, in terms of the hotel’s recent spell in the spotlight. While t...

Re: Cambodia to switch on internet gateway Feb. 16: NYT

My plan is to just rent a low cost VM from a small provider and run my own VPN from there. It’ll cost much the same and have a much lower chance of being blacklisted. I think. I’ll report back on if it works out or not.

Re: Southeast Asia’s roads more dangerous than Covid

More people die of heart attacks, therefore we shouldn't care about road safety. I’m not saying we should ignore one problem because another causes more deaths. I’m saying that some people need to look at the big picture instead of acting as if covid is the only thing that any of us should be worri...

The only ones getting their panties in a bunch are the ones who weren’t helping to begin with, so what you’re describing there is the ideal outcome for me. :beer3:

Re: Visa to start a new business catch-22

The DoI have now made it official that T-type (Tourist) Visas and e-Visas (electronic online Tourist Visa) can legally be converted to an E-type EOS...which means that there should be a standard conversion fee across the board when using an agency. Whether this is a temporary or permanent move is n...
