The other alternative is Air Asia to KL or Singapore, then onwards from there by Emirates/Qantas. Comng here i found the best way was Auckland/Sydney/KL/PP. The best timng I could get was a max layover of 3hrs in KL, and 2.5hrs in Sydney. Cost was around NZ$1100, so not much cheaper than what you've...
