Re: Russia behind brexit?

^Can't wait, Britain did alright last time, 500 years ago. Tbh, I quite like Russia, it's an intellectual, cultured, yet violent place, but fascinating. A bastion of civilisation. I've been involved in the struggle to liberate Europe from the cryptofascist tyranny of the EU (lol), since the Maastric...

Re: Fees assosiated with TransferWise

I think the TW app displays the rates they use, and even shows competitors' rates, I think. I'm not using it in Cambodia btw, but I would if I had a Cambodian bank account. You connect bank cards or accounts at either end. I never use the transfer function, I just load TW from my card, and send it t...

Brexit Agreement On The Cards

Well, judging by the facial expressions, the EU-Remain coalition must have finally been outflanked. Monsieur Barnier looks so pissed off, unlike the UK guy. https://ichef.bbci.co.uk/news/660/cpsprodpb/16269/production/_109192709_mediaitem109192708.jpg https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-50007206 Wh...

Re: UK Visa for Cambodian Girlfriend?

why not just let her apply alone Then what does she need you for? Each UK visa application is by the applicant alone anyway, the only part the UK citizen involved plays is in qualifying the applicant to be able to apply, by being a prospective spouse or (financial) sponsor, and qualifying past the ...

Re: Fees assosiated with TransferWise

I think the fee and exchange rate are pretty good using TransferWise because it's bank to bank. Maybe $3.99 fee + current transfer rate. But they say when transfering USD outside US they have to use swift which is extra $3.99 + both banks can charge you extra money. I know noone will be able to tel...

Re: UK Visa for Cambodian Girlfriend?

My friend applied on behalf of his girlfriend on two occasions. Both failed. He is an upstanding bloke, owns a mortgage brokerage, earns well in excess off £100k. Pays all his taxes. No criminal record. He is 56. She has no real estate property here, and no children. She is an artist (pictures, por...

Re: Five Chinese Teens* Arrested for Kidnapping in Phnom Penh

Sounds like an opportunity... make Cambodia a honeytrap for hapless PRC wannabe gangsters preying on hapless PRC gamblers, and rob the wannabe gangsters, then fingerprint, dna, and deport them as a menace to Khmer society, rinse and repeat. The PRC government may want to subcontract executions, they...

Re: first impressions - newly arrived

So my heartfelt thanks to those concerned about my well-being and flagging the risks of dating bargirls. This is something every middle-aged, divorced, unattached male expat (and those attached or not divorced!) moving to Camnodia should have drilled into them before their visa is issued at the air...
