The Koran is written in Classical Arabic and is therefore not something one would study to learn modern Arabic, in much the same way that one would not use Chaucer's works to learn modern English. She could well have been a diversion indeed.
Going by programs like Banged Up Abroad, there seem to be many smuggling attempts doomed to failure from the start and invariably the mule hears later in prison that they were setup, and a diversion for others carrying.

Is it just me, but surely only an idiot would expect that much to pass unnoticed? Does seem a large amount, especially if it was all in one suitcase. Guessing that even if she did realise the h would not pass unnoticed, may have been too late to pull out or change her mind. As prahocalypse now said...
