Re: Khmer foreigner rating system — it's riel

Richard Dawkins' comment that he didn't believe he should have the right to vote on Brexit as he didn't have the necessary expertise comes to mind. Asimov's concern about the growing mindset “my ignorance is just as good as your knowledge'' was surely prophetic. I don't want to derail this thread, ...

Re: Deli Bistro - Lunch Fixed Menu

To be honest, I can't remember ever buying a cheap bottle of French Wine and really enjoying it, they just don't seem to make good wine cheap. If they do, I've never seen it. Kiwi/Mini C ? If you like Malbec try the Cahors, Chateau Vincens. $8.90 I think. Their Vin de Pays Viognier is light but typ...

That Asimov quote is golden. Yes, it is a great quote. Pity the OP didn't point in the right direction. Then again, the OP is not well educated or open-minded. I sense a certain Dunning-Kruger Effect at play. Oh well. That Asimov meme omits the previous line There is a cult of ignorance in the Unit...

Re: Tourist Traps

What qualifies as a tourist trap; bright shiny lights, poor food, skimpy dressed ladies hanging outside? A tourist trap is a service or venue that takes advantage of the fact that many tourists don’t know how much things should cost. If these fancy restaurants were charging tourists double what the...

Re: How would you invest?

Most banks still pay the default rate for the length of time the capital was untouched, that rate often being what they would give on a normal savings account e.g. 3%. But check this. Further to this, KB Prasac pay 2.5% on savings accounts and if you close a term deposit e.g. @7.5% early they will ...

Re: Tourist Traps

Do many places allow you to BYO with corkage? I wonder what they would try to charge. I am going to lunch at somewhere nice tomorrow and might try my luck. I've had the best luck asking owners Can I bring my own wine next time ? I'll pay you. The more gracious (Irina's, when she was still in charge...

Re: Tourist Traps

I was drinking white (not a great pairing with a BB). The viognier was truly vile, it was rejected at the tasting, and then it just jumped to $6 for a run- of-the-mill Sauv Blanc, and I know I can buy wine like that for ~$8. They wanted $30 a bottle. All the reds started at about $6 iirc, and I hav...

Re: Tourist Traps

I think I last ate at La Croisette in 2003 and it was still the French owner. Similar style to La Marmite.

I remember he let me bring my own wine and didn't charge me corkage.
