Re: Arbitrage: long-term letting + short term subletting
Thank you FC! That makes sense.
Online payments for the accommodation would not be received in Cambodia Still, one needs some safety, not to build a good reputation for an accommodation and then the place is taken over by someone else before the rental agreement expires etc.
Cheers

Re: Arbitrage: long-term letting + short term subletting
Thank you CC! Good to know this approach may work. Scale is important for sure, based on the return one can get on the time invested promoting/renting out the places. Just a note to the other participants: when a person posts a question, I believe it is evident he/she is not very knowledgeable about...

Arbitrage: long-term letting + short term subletting
Business model: a way to test the real estate/rental market without risking too much. Rent long term ($300 to $400 per month) a one bedroom apartment, sublet it short-term (AirBnB etc., $35 to $45 per night). Questions: - is this legal? Does it depend on the contract signed? - is this likely to be p...

Re: Cambodian citizenship
Thanks for the heads-up! I am not really interested in a new passport, I already have 2 :-) and neither Countries will take back my citizenship if I add a new one. As a citizen, one knows he is very likely to be able to stay in a Country. One day, Cambodia can just decide to remove the business visa...

Re: This is so funny...Dr. Richard Dawkins love letters
I thank skeptics (James Randi, etc.) for opening my eyes and helping me to get rid of a good part of the sub-cultural clutter I had. I met him a couple of times, really smart person. However, I walked away from it all once I understood it is just one more -ism. When I read in the Skeptic Magazine th...

Leasing terms
I was looking into leasing a small hotel "short term", 5-10 years. I see the monthly lease is quite reasonable, but the upfront prepayment is quite substantial. Is this normal? And do people usually agree to an initial lease, with automatic renewals up to 99 years (if the law so allows)? J...

Re: Building a small retreat center near Angkor
Thank CG, I appreciate your realism, especially because it is logical and evidence-based. These are the kind of constructive warnings I need to hear. I can get some customers through online marketing, I just need to understand if it is financially sustainable. Good point about returning guests. When...

Re: Buddhism in Cambodia
JBT, I finished the interesting article. Not sure what to say. Probably many members of groups belonging to "organized spirituality" are the same, thinking more about earthly benefits of their position than the well-being of the people they should help. Still, there are westerners who are ...
