Re: Moving from Thailand to Cambodia

I moved to Siem Reap from Bangkok in January. Everyones circumstances are different, but for me its been a plus, major ones being the air is better, immigration system is easier, its overall cheaper, easier to get around and I get a free Temple Pass. The food is worse in Siem Reap. There is no Ther...

Re: Vietnam may waive visas for 6-12 months' stay -- eyeing retiree visa!

I wasn't going to post anything due to the complete lack of visa waiver news after Monday and Tuesday National Assembly discussions this week, as promised in the story immediately above ^^^ . But I decided to note that: Nothing happened. Only thing reported was the plan to arrange more mu...

Re: Vietnam may waive visas for 6-12 months' stay -- eyeing retiree visa!

What is that faint light in the distant night sky over Vietnam? Maybe we will know a little more after next Monday, 18th. Subject is the proposed extensive expansion of the visa waiver policy. However, nothing in this story about the earlier mentioned generous length of stays to be allowed. I actual...

Re: Vietnam may waive visas for 6-12 months' stay -- eyeing retiree visa!

I'm currently in Vietnam and I'm seeing many tourists having a great time, BUT I think they should really give visa exempt entry to more countries as planned, because the current list of countries is strangely limited. I think they could attract quite a few snowbirds if they introduce the long-term...

Vietnam may waive visas for 6-12 months' stay -- eyeing retiree visa!

Looks like Vietnam is ready to bust out of the visa doldrums -- largely due to heavy local competition. Just a couple of hours ago, this news was just posted at VN EXpress. Headline: Vietnam considers visa exemption for nationals of wealthy countries Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has instructed imm...

Re: Australian renting apartment Siem Reap question

^^^ Doc67 nails it all. I would add, try to pass by the place, if you can get the address before signing a contract, in late evening. Listen for loud music, raucous bars, crowing roosters and barking dogs. Having stayed in Siem Reap on numerous occasions, the place can be noisy, i.e., especially any...

Re: Beer economics

I’ll drink a draught whatever cambodia/angkor/anchor (so long as they pronounce it properly) as long as it’s cold. For the most part, they do seem all the same. If I want better flavour, I’ll have a Jameson’s alongside. Or a cup of black tea instead. I’m no officionado or fan of lager-types, but Ga...

Re: The Future of Phnom Penh

This could have been an interesting thread on contemporary Phnom Penh. Now it's mired in AI, eye worms and US politics. I had low expectations but not low enough, it seems.

Re: Longtime Australian Expat KEN LONG Dies in Phnom Penh from Heart Attack After Slip in Bathroom

RIP Death by falling in the bathroom is not such a uncommon occurance. When i shower and the floor is wet i walk really really carefully like a couple inches per step, for a reason. Those slippery tiles here are not to play with and certainly not if you slip and hit the back of your head on them or...

Re: New Vietnam draft law to offer 3-month e-visa

Fresh from the Vietnam Dept. of Blah blah blah . . . First, the Tourism ministry is maybe, possibly, potentially getting real -- well, okay, most ASEAN nations are eyeing the so-called wealthy tourists. However, the magical word "retired" is referenced for the first time that I recall: Fro...
