Re: Video of Foreigner In SUV Running Over Khmer on Motorbike in Phnom Penh Sparks Debate: Whose Fault Is It? (POLL)

I don't think it'll escalate to a grand, at most a $50-100 to the police to get your car back (under whatever circumstance) and $100 to fix the scooter. There's no possible way more than $40 of damage was done though. This is roughly what I was thinking. Only give the kid 100k-200k riel. The cops $...

Yup. Swallow your pride, like we all do day in and day out here in SEA. You swat the mosquitoes with a bit of cash.

I hadn't watched it till the end, figuring there'd just be a bunch of people milling about. Well, the front angle shows a typical swerving motorcycle manoeuvre in this town. This type of gonzo riding is rampant here. Everybody does it, young and old alike. In Thailand, it's more the teenaged boys wh...

Watching moto riders closely the last few days, moto riders shift left or right without a momentary glance and cut across bumpers with utter abandon. But yeah, a few seconds of video before the crunch would have been very instructive.

Re: Police officer arrested for insulting PM on Facebook

Wow, that's ballsy. I don't think we'll be hearing from the captain for a long time, if ever.

Re: Scientists Once Gave LSD To Dolphins In The Hope Of Learning To Communicate With Them

Whether cyberpunk author Williams Gibson knew about this or not, his short story Johnny Mnemonic featured a retired US Navy dolphin cybernetically enhanced to deactivate mines. Johnny gets help from the drug-addicted dolphin named Jones to break into his mind and scavenge data. Cool story.

PR, you should have noted the source of these crazy rankings. It's AirHelp, which I've never heard of and completely disagree with.

Re: Yawn . . . Clueless Tuktuk/taxi drivers

To be fair the OP sounds a bit clueless. Obviously speaking Khmer helps a lot. Locals tend to use pagodas, markets and other landmarks for navigation, street numbers not so much and they are highly unlikely to know many western bars/ restaurants. The Mobitel HQ isn't a big tower either, it's about ...

Re: Yawn . . . Clueless Tuktuk/taxi drivers

A blank face is a blank face no matter the nationality you're instructing. Pretty simple body language. Hanno: My experience in Vung Tau is similar. If you have to tell the driver where Vung Tau Plaza is (giant tower residence on main east-west arterial Le Hong Phong, with Co-op Supermarket, FFS), y...

Yawn . . . Clueless Tuktuk/taxi drivers

It was five years ago I lived in PP. Clueless tuk tuks and taxi drivers haven't changed. 1. From 155, I tell the tuk tuk driver attached to the hotel I am going to Sihanouk Blvd. to the Cellcard office. I mimic big tower. You know, Mobitel office, on Sihanouk, between St 51/Pasteur and 55 -- only I ...
