Re: Some basic questions.

Yes, the Thais are some of the most racist people I have ever met. They will smile and wai and do what ever needs to be done while there is still money in your wallet, but once the last baht is gone, you will see their true colours. I could go on about the non-stop cheating and lying which seems to ...

Re: Some basic questions.

Yes, I agree. Western countries make you jump through a lot of hoops to get in. But once you're in, you're in, after a number of years you can usually get citizenship, a passport, right to vote and claim social security. Plus you get to live in peace. Thailand might be easier to get into through a n...

Re: Some basic questions.

why is there so much anti-western bureaucracy in thailand? It's filtering down from China apparently, who the Thai government are trying to forge even closer links with. Gradually it has gotten harder to stay in Thailand long term as they have made it harder to get visas, work permits, bank account...

Some basic questions.

So, as I mentioned I am living in Thailand right now. I have visited Cambodia a few times and am considering moving once the virus dies down a bit, maybe for a few months then back to Thailand or maybe for longer. A break from the endless paperwork and anti-westerner bureaucracy in Thailand, or mayb...

Sweet Lemon wrote: Fri Oct 18, 2019 10:28 am This complaining about rude Thai bureaucrats and 100 pages of paperwork to keep your status in Thailand all seems like just an excuse for you to move away from your wife.
Haha - I can assure you that's not the case!

Re: Need some advice about Cambodia

Well, I would want a $ account. Would probably come with 20k baht ($667) to pay for everything until I can get a Cambodian bank account up and running. Is it realistic to be able to open an account somewhere like Siem Reap after having only being in the country a few days and having no permanent add...

Re: Need some advice about Cambodia

I'm starting to think about the logistics of it all now. I have a Thai bank account but using a Cambodian ATM means I will be hit with a lot of charges. So to avoid this I would need to bring enough cash for my trip with me, but then I don't want to carry that around all day so would need to leave i...

Re: Need some advice about Cambodia

There's no way in hell my wife would relocate to Cambodia, she won't even go for a weekend (we are about 2 hours drive from the border). So I would be visiting her as and when I can, depending on visas etc which in Thailand is now a complete and utter nightmare. Tourists are being refused at the air...
