Re: How do you respond when people tell you their financial problems?

I emphasise, and nod, while saying in Khmer "I know, my paycheck is small, small and I have a wife and two kids"

Then change the subject.

Re: Health Insurance

liked the bit about leaving him unconscious for a day on the floor while she cleaned his account out. Reminds me of a few stories I've heard over the years. Of course, nobody every believes you... I have heard and believed similar stories both here and in the west. Of course, nobody wants to hear t...

Re: Yawn . . . Clueless Tuktuk/taxi drivers

I rarely use them, preferring to drive, but almost never have any problems when I do hire one.

Khmer do have a funny sense of humour though. Could easily be done deliberately by the driver who is thinking "this dude is speaking to me like I'm a retard, I'm going to be that retard".

Re: 77% of Cambodian parents use physical punishment against children.

I wish my other half would hit our kids a bit more, TBH.

They get away with murder.

I got the wooden spoon from mum quite often, but outgrew it by 9, so it was superseded by a length of 2x4 and/or a steel rulers edge.

Don't recall my dad ever lifting a hand though.

Re: Owning a Supersport Bike in Cambodia

Yeah, parts availability is pretty good for common big bikes like that r6. I can think of a half dozen places that would have a chain in stock. Personally, I'm too tall for trying to use a sportsbike around town - I have a naked superbike with a more ujm stance which makes more power, way more torqu...

Re: Spanish tourist appeals 2013 murder conviction

Ricky will remain in his 'health farm'. The judge has dismissed Ricardo' s appeal, despite the fact that the police have declared the British man's cause of death as an overdose of medication and alcohol. Obviously the convicted man doesn't have any money, so he will remain in prison. The nearest S...

Re: Carnage on Monivong: accident causes 3 dead and 6 injured

Yeah, I go between my workplace and my house two to three times daily, which is eleven miles each way. Then use it all day to drive around sites. Plus most days there's a trip to the provincial capital (80 mile round trip), and weekly (sometimes more frequent) trips to PP. Probably around three hour...

Re: Carnage on Monivong: accident causes 3 dead and 6 injured

Well, I haven't seen hundreds take place, but I certainly have come upon the aftermath of hundreds.

I drive around 6000km per month, mind you, and almost daily will see an accident that has taken place. Generally minor, sometimes ghastly.
