"Phnom Penh is not a province."

Oh FGS! Stick to the point and stop your pedantry. "The capital Phnom Penh is not a province but an 'autonomous municipality', equivalent to a province governmentally and administered at the same level as the other 24 provinces."

Re: Information on Coronavirus in Cambodia from 8 March 2020 (Latest Updates)

So here's something new! The Government allows unrestricted travel between two provinces only, Phnom Penh and Kandal, treating it as one province, right? But now I know that people from Phnom Penh who arrive in a certain village (and possibly villages) in Kandal (perhaps to be with their families fo...

Re: Information on Coronavirus in Cambodia from 8 March 2020 (Latest Updates)

I'm told on good authority that Roomchang Dental Hospital has been closed (quarantined) with 67 staff inside as of this afternoon. A Roomchang patient who had treatment on 22 March tested positive on 30 March, hence the Roomchang lockdown.

Re: Information on Coronavirus in Cambodia from 8 March 2020 (Latest Updates)

And despite today's 105 'New Cases', it seems to me Cambodia is containing the spread pretty well. How do you know? How many tests are they doing per day? If you examine the chart a little more thoroughly, you'll see under 'Tests per Million', Cambodia is placed smack in the middle of that category...

https://i.imgur.com/Qbk1IMz.png Here is today's Worldometer Covid-19 data on the ten countries with populations closest to that of Cambodia. Cambodia is thus in the middle - with five larger countries on top and five smaller countries below. And despite today's 105 'New Cases', it seems to me Cambo...

Re: Information on Coronavirus in Cambodia from 8 March 2020 (Latest Updates)

Take Worldometer's figures (if you believe them): Cambodia's 'Cases per Million of Population' show that, with 75 cases per million, we are 206th of the world's 219 countries least affected by the virus (of whatever strain). Of countries with populations greater than one million, only Laos, Tanzania...

US$1 and US$5 bills going out of circulation?

As most probably know, the National Bank of Cambodia gave banks and MFIs until 31 August to 'collect' all US$1 and US$5 notes for 'shipping out of the country' in order to promote wider use of the Khmer Riel. I've noticed that shops have recently given me all my small change in Riel when I presented...

Retired in Cambodia and want to be famous?

A top-class award-winning Khmer journalist I know (with excellent English) would like to meet Ex-Pats who have retired to Cambodia i.e. got Retirement Visas in their passports. He wants to write a feature (in English) about people who have chosen to retire to the KoW. I can vouch for him; he's not t...

City Hall strikes hard on bars with signs and awnings overhanging the pavement

It's remarkable how quickly Street 136 bar owners have obeyed Phnom Penh's City Hall order to tear down garish awnings and signs overhanging the pavements. All owners, no matter how well-connected, were given three days to comply or - who knows? Now, City Hall, please stop mobile selling contraption...

Re: mask up!

From Monday's Guardian (in the UK) ... “Do face masks work? They are not recommended by Public Health England (PHE), the NHS or the World Health Organisation (WHO), or the American Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) because there is no solid evidence they work and quite a lot of worry ...
