Sihanoukville Police Chief: Shakedowns of Tourists to Stop

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Just FYI that letter works. We gave it to guests who handed it over when they were pulled over (no fault), the police read it and then just waved them on.

I don't quite understand this if the shakedowns are supposed to stop what reasonable expectation do they have to think that it will when you consider that the cops have an incredible incentive to write bullshit tickets because they get to keep 70% of the fine this is going to turn into Gong show.

Rarely get pulled over anymore. The weasel faced Yuon mentioned earlier is still at it though. He got me yesterday again.

The letter I posted here has been removed. I had a meeting with the Deputy Traffic Police Chief who asked us to stop circulating it as they are doing everything to address the problem. I am also still waiting for an appointment with the Police Chief Chuon Narin who seems to be really busy these days :) (I have someone who is arranging that).

Just to be clear: You didn't post a copy of the letter here. And as such, it was not removed by anyone from CEO.

What you did post were 2 links to images on imgur, which no longer exist.

Gotta love the police here.

We are doing everything we can, but please stop helping!
