Re: American Charles F Harris Jumps from Sokha Hotel 20th Fl
Ok, I finally have some more info about the American man, Charles "Charlie" Harris, who committed suicide by jumping to his death from the Sokha Hotel in Phnom Penh.
He was a Thailand expat who has been living in Phuket.
He leaves behind a wife and 2 children, who were also living in Phuket, Thailand with him.
He had been suffering from depression for a while already.
It looks like he was the co-owner of a yacht chartering business in Phuket, Thailand (Maybe DaVinci Yacht Charters Phuket?).
He also did a lot of surfing in Indonesia, but I'm not sure if he lived there.
Between the police claiming they have video that shows him jumping, and that he was already suffering from depression, I think it's save to call this a suicide.
I called it that yesterday because I thought everything pointed to it, but I think it's more than a fair conclusion now.
Will update a bit more when I get home...

Oh dear, sad for his family.
But does this mean that Cambodia is more depressing than Thailand ? Or maybe its just easier to do something like this far from home ?

Charlie Harris was co-owner of a few chartered boats companies, including one that does surfing tours in Indonesia:
Surfing charters to both North Sumatra and West Sumatra and offers surf charters to the Mentawai Islands, the Telos, Nias, the Hinako Islands (Asu & Bawa), Bangkaru, the Banyaks and Simeulue.
Bohemian Baru Luxury Surf Charters at Affordable Prices
The domain for Surf N Sumatra is owned by Charlie Harris:

And another one that lists him as the owner/operator called SunLine cruises:
http://www.songlinecruises.com
THE BOAT – Bohemian Baru is a 62' aluminum power catamaran custom-built by the owner/operators Steve Bridge and Charlie Harris. It was built specifically for surf charter.
THE SKIPPER - Steve Bridge was born in England, raised in Australia, and has since spent his time between California, Indonesia, and Oz. He has operated four different surf charter boats in Indonesian waters during the last twenty years. Two of these he built himself.

His friends speak very highly of him too:

He taught me a lot to be what I am now ..."
"For sure mate!i remember in 1999 or 2000 i think,we in Logkna...i had malaria, really sick...all the streets were flooded...he stayed in the hospital,on the room floor with me..also somehow got me on a flight out of banda back to medan to a better hospital...absolute legend..never forget that!RIP charlie..[PERSON WITH FOLDED HANDS]"
His best friend and business partner said these things about him about him:
"Best friend business partner Charlie Harris passed away yesterday. Will be truly missed by all close to him. RIP. Brother."
"He was dealing with depression"
"He had been dealing with depression for a while."
"Yea im on my way back to phuket today to meet with his wife n kids. To try to figure out the future"
And other kind words from several other of his friends:

Very sad about what happened, but his best friend and business partner, Steve, seems to be a really good dude, even looking after Charlie's widow and 2 children. Charlie was lucky to have such goods friend, too, even several even call a "legend."

Re: American Charles F Harris Jumps from Sokha Hotel 20th Floor
I just found this and thought it was strange. Charles Harris left a suicide note, agonizing to the hotel for the trouble he'd cause:
“When the police and U.S. Embassy checked his room, they saw a note he had written,” he said, adding that officials told him the American had left a note apologizing for any “interruption” that his suicide might cause for people at the hotel.
