Eh yes, but only 12% of the population are black.LTO wrote:I wouldn't make any quick moves based on that meme.hanno wrote:Well, in the US you are lucky to survive if you are black or use an indicator. But agreed, pretty stupid for a 26-year old uni student.LTO wrote:That is not politics. It is a straightforward murder threat and threat of terrorism. In the US you would not only be arrested and sent to prison, you be lucky to survive the arrest for doing something like that.
Of the 547 people found by the Guardian to have been killed by law enforcement so far this year, 49.7% were white, 28.3% were black and 15.5% were Hispanic/Latino.

Not in Ferguson.
Re: College Student Arrested for Making a Threat Comment on
Yes, sorry, i edited that into my post late. Nevertheless, the cops are shooting plenty of white people. Twice as many as blacks so far. Per capita, blacks fare worse with both cops and their fellow citizens, but you're not safe from getting shot by the cops in the US by virtue of your skin color. Not by a long shot.hanno wrote:Eh yes, but only 12% of the population are black.LTO wrote:I wouldn't make any quick moves based on that meme.hanno wrote:Well, in the US you are lucky to survive if you are black or use an indicator. True, but then the American citizens watched as their police forces were militarized in the wake of 9/11.
Re: Student Arrested for Death Threat to Politician on Faceb
Spot on. Therein is the real problem that they don't want you thinking or talking about. They would prefer to have you talking about cops shooting blacks as if the police system is okay except for racism in some departments, when in fact the problem is a militarized overarmed police that sees citizens as the enemy.hanno wrote:True, but then the American citizens watched as their police forces were militarized in the wake of 9/11.

Student detained over Facebook ‘bomb threat’

A university student in Siem Reap province was detained and sent to court yesterday after allegedly posting a death threat against Deputy Prime Minister Sar Kheng on the social networking site Facebook.
Tao Savoeun, a 26-year-old graduate of the University of South-East Asia, located in Siem Reap town, allegedly wrote on Facebook he intended to “place a bomb to kill everyone” at a graduation event held in the city on Monday.
“He wrote a death threat in a comment on Facebook under a photo saying ‘when Samdech [Sar Kheng] arrives [at the graduation ceremony] I will place a bomb to kill everyone’,” said Bun Hav, a deputy in the provincial minor crimes bureau.
Savoeun was among 775 students who received their degrees on Monday, Hav added.
Provincial police questioned Savoeun on Monday and he reportedly confessed to having posted the message, saying he did so because the ceremony had been postponed several times, which he blamed on Kheng.
“After the graduation ceremony finished, we questioned and detained him,” Hav said, without explaining why the police waited until after the event to make the arrest.
“He [Savoeun] said that he was very unhappy” with the rescheduling of the ceremony “because he had to ask permission to attend from his workplace and informed his relatives many times,” Hav added.
A female University of South-East Asia student who declined to be named said that the school had originally planned to hold the event on Saturday, but it was then moved to Monday.
“The university told us that the deputy prime minister was busy, so they had to change the date,” the student said.
Police charged Savoeun with “threatening to kill” under Article 233 of the Criminal Code.
If he is found guilty, Savoeun could face up to two years in prison.
The arrest comes on the heels of the announcement of a new “anti-cybercrime” department within the Ministry of Interior tasked with monitoring Cambodians’ online activities.

Fair example of how the EL press and some NGOs may be leading Khmer youth astray. Putting "bomb threat" in editorial semi-quotes, emphasizing how it was on Facebook, linking it to the new "monitoring Cambodians online activities" as if any of these things mitigate responsibilty for making specific detailed death treats against government officials. Can you imagine what would have happened if somebody in the US posted the details of when where and how they were going to assassinate Obama in a suicide bombing? The public would be better served by the press by putting the emphasis on responsible internet use rather than trying to diminish responsibility for making bomb threats online.CEOCambodiaNews wrote:Student detained over Facebook ‘bomb threat’

Update on his case from the Phnom Penh Post:
Interior Minister Sar Kheng is seeking the legal means to engineer the acquittal of a student who threatened in a Facebook post to bomb a graduation ceremony he was scheduled to attend.
The student, Tao Savoeun, wrote a letter to the minister on Monday, apologising and pleading for mercy. Sar Kheng read the letter yesterday, said ministry spokesman Khieu Sopheak, and the minister is considering ways the student might be granted clemency.
